Jonathan Miller, Native Son and Honorable Delegate

Jonathan Miller has lived his entire life in South Berkeley County. He is the son of Jim and Rita Miller and the grandson of Goldie Hutzler, the late Carroll Hutzler, and Jim and Juanita Miller. His father, Jim, is a Master Sergeant in the WV Air National Guard and his mother, Rita, works for a small real estate business called Porterfield Properties, Inc.

Jonathan’s only brother, Jeremy Miller, has served in the US Air Force as a Basic Military Training Instructor.  Currently, he is a recruiter for the WV Air National Guard.  His uncle, Mike Miller, also works at the WV Air National Guard keeping a strong tradition of military service in Jonathan's family.  Jonathan also has several other uncles, aunts, and cousins who all live and work in Berkeley County.

His family first lived in a small house in Gerrardstown on what is now called Reunion Corner Road. Jonathan attended Gerrardstown Elementary School and played South Berkeley youth football, basketball, and baseball. At about age 12, Jonathan’s family moved to Bunker Hill, which is where his parents still live today.

Jonathan graduated in the top of his class from Musselman High School. At Musselman High School, Jonathan played three varsity sports while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and received a $24,000 scholarship from High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.

He graduated from his alma mater, High Point University, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and a minor degree in economics. While in college, Jonathan maintained nearly a 3.9 GPA, participated in and led 4 organizations, was a member of 4 honor societies, and received 3 scholarships-2 of which were rewarded because of excellent leadership qualities. For his excellence, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with All University Honors, the highest recognition any graduate can receive.

Today, Jonathan lives in Inwood.  He works as a health insurance consultant for Shenandoah Valley Group.  He also serves as a substitute teacher for Berkeley County Schools. 

For 2 years, Jonathan Miller has served as Delegate for southern Berkeley County.  Currently, Miller serves as a ranking member on the Health and Human Resources Committee in the capacity as Minority Vice-Chair.  He also serves on the Banking and Insurance Committee, Government Organization Committee, and Political Subdivisions Committee. 

During this time, he has also served on these committees: Education, Constitutional Revision, Sub-Committee B - Higher Education, and Select Committee C - Infrastructure. 

Jonathan currently serves as General Chairman of the Republican Legislative Committee and WV State Co-Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Jonathan has represented WV on a diplomatic trip to Taiwan and was recognized as an "Emerging Political Leader" by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation, the Atlantic Bridge Foundation, and the American Legislative Exchange Council.  Also, the Republican National Committee named Jonathan Miller as one of the Republican Party's "40 And Under", which recognizes the party's rising stars.

Most recently, Jonathan was named "The Distinguished Young Conservative Leader of the Year" by The Phillips Foundation, a Washington, DC based non-profit dedicated to advancing constitutional principles, a democratic society, and a vibrant free enterprise system.

In 2008, Jonathan Miller faced no opposition in his bid for re-election.  He will continue to serve the people of southern Berkeley County for another 2 years. 

Miller won his first bid for public office in November of 2006, defeating his opponent overwhelmingly. He won nearly 59% of the vote beating his opponent by nearly 18 points and over 700 votes. Jonathan's victory came amidst an election year where Republicans were beat up statewide and nationwide, making his victory even more incredible.

He is a member of First Baptist Church of Inwood and is a member of the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce, Berkeley County Farm Bureau, and the National Rifle Association.  Jonathan has also been recognized as a Ronald Reagan Future Leader, received the Congressional Recognition of Service Award, and has worked for the Republican Party and Republican candidates on the local, state, and national level.
