On May 30 we turned in our signature petitions to the Arizona Secretary of State's Office to be placed on the ballot for the Primary and General Election for 2008.  I want to thank all the volunteers who helped make this possible.  Our next step is to the let the voters in District 2 know that they have a choice to vote for a candidate who is honest and accountable.

In the past few weeks I embarked on trips to areas across the district seldom-visited and all too often forgotten by our state's leaders. I am doing this because I want to learn from the people who live in these areas. These past weekends I traveled to Flagstaff, Window Rock Town Hall Meeting, and First Mesa Consolidated Villages, and the Kayenta Chapter to listen to their issues and concerns and take part in their meeting.

It was an honor to visit with the people of Supai who reside in the bottom of Grand Canyon, a place that is known for its majestic beauty.  Our trip took us on a three hour hike down and four hours hike back to the top of the canyon which we accomplished in the same day. We were fortunate to visit with Earl and Janice Yavia who own and operate the Sinyella family store, who gave us such a warm welcome - I thank them for their hospitality.

I am traveling to these places because as your Senator, I will work for all people and listen to everyone.  By understanding the challenges and hardships that affect many people on a daily basis I can do a better job as your Senator.  The purpose of the journey is to talk and meet the people who I will be representing.

There must be no forgotten places in District 2.  I have always believed in this district and in my home state and I have always believed we can build a better district for all people. These coming weeks I will continue traveling to places where great voters are fighting for change from the same old way of doing business, struggling for ways to make a better way of living.  I am going to meet and learn from these constituents.  I am running for the State Senate as a different type of candidate and I ask that you join my campaign today.

As the only candidate who can bring accountability to Arizona's District 2, I was not surprised at the headlines in Sunday's Arizona Reppublic (March 23, 2008) Legislature racks up missed votes.  Members of the Stae Senate have a total of 565 voting opportunities in 2007.

The article goes on to read… “Arizona lawmakers have one duty: to vote on legislation that comes before them. All say they take it seriously. Still, Arizona lawmakers missed hundreds of votes last year without an excuse or explanation, according to an Arizona Republic analysis of votes during the 2007 session.  Of the 500-plus proposals up for a vote last year, 20 legislators missed more than a dozen … read more in depth by clicking here.

In particular is Senator Albert Hale (Democrat) with total of 118 missed votes in 2007 who according to Arizona’s Legislatures home page was placed into office and then re-elected in 2004 and 2006 yet continues to have a high number of missed votes and an absentee record that would have any school principal expel him from school – where is the accountability to his District and to the State?

During the 2006 legislative session his voting record showed that he did not vote 214 times in the State Senate.  Hale’s voting and absentee record are an embarrassment to this District and the State but his financial records continue to show the same lack of accountability that had him resign from his last office in order to avoid prosecution involving ethics violations for misuse of funds.  Hale failed to file his previous campaign reports and continued to disregard reporting his campaign expenditures as required by Arizona State Secretary’s Office.

Albert Hale says everyone deserves a second chance and he should be glad he was given the opportunity yet he continues where he left off from his last elected office when he resigned.

Is this the kind of representation District 2 deserves?  District 2 deserves to have better accountability.  District 2 is the largest district in the state and is made up of townships, cities, and villages from Teec Nos Pos in the far North East to Sanders in the South in Apache County, to Supai and Peach Springs in the Grand Canyon of Mohave County, the City of Flagstaff in Coconino County and Sichomovi Village of First Mesa in Navajo County.

A change at the State is overdue as Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and all other parties need to unite and vote for better representation.  The reality of having an elected representative with no sense of accountability is absurd.  Throughout my many visits around District 2 many citizens do not even know who their elected representatives are in this district.  District 2 deserves a State Senator to bring accountability, visibility, and integrity back to its constituents at home and at the state level.  I encourage each and every one to exercise your right to vote.

You have a choice, don’t vote for the same professional politicians who have no sense of accountability or integrity.

Vote for Accountability and Honesty.  Vote for Royce.  I encourage you to exercise your right to vote.  District 2 deserves to have accountability!
