We Must Always Remember 9/11
Patriot Day - September 11 Fly the US Flag at half staff
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day." NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2003, as Patriot Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services and candlelight vigils. I also call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff on Patriot Day. In addition, I call upon all Americans to display the flag at half-staff from their homes on that day and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Fly your flag and ask your neighbor to do the same! Call all your friends and remind them. The American flag does not belong to any one political party, nor does it represent any one political view. The American flag belongs to all the people of the United States. Nothing told us this more than the way we came together as a people after the tragedies of September 11, 2001.
A note from Maridale Smith.....Can it possibly be five years since that horrible day on September 11, 2001? It has been five years of blood and sweat for our military men and women, five years of grinding it out in Afghanistan and Iraq and it may take another five years or more before we may even remotely know peace in that region. In recognition of that day and its significance to all Americans it is important to note that there will be a variety of activities around our state on that date:
The 'americasupportsyou.mil' has set up Freedom Marches on 9/11 in various locations. Closest to us will be marches in: Antioch, Sacramento, Modesto and at Travis AFB. For information on when and where the Freedom March takes place, it will be necessary to go on that website for the latest details. Be sure to fly your flag on September 11 and say lots of prayers for those wonderful men and women serving on our behalf. Were it not for them there surely would have been a follow-up September 11-type attack on our shores. Next time you see a serviceman or woman, be sure to step up and thank them for their service.
Event sponsored by Move America Forward. Sacramento Capital grounds will begin to open at 5:30 pm. Bring your blanket and save a seat. Activities start around 7 pm.
The Americanism Committee has decided to return to the original Support the Troops effort this year and to resume packing and sending boxes of needed items to members of the military serving in a war zone around the world. To do so, we will need a current list of names and addresses of military personnel from our area as well as those who may be your relatives, friends or neighbors. The committee is anxious to begin this new phase with the your help and continued support. In the past few years members have been more than generous in donating items to send and money to cover postage. The need to let our troops know we fully support their efforts is more important than ever because of the current efforts to undermine the war on terror. The troops need to hear from us now and everyday from now on. You can help to do that on your own - if you own a computer! Here are a couple of websites to go on which will allow you to send daily messages to the troops if you wish. 1) americasupportsyou.mil - bring up: Messages 'To the Troops' 2)supportthetroops.com and 3) Operationcareandcomfort.com. All of these websites have a place for you to send a message of support. In addition to that, under messages from the troops on the americasupportsyou.mil' site, there is an email from ROMY ENCARNATION MMC(SW/AW) MPO2 DIV ENG DEPT USS NASHVILLE (LPD-13) FPO AE 09579-1715. This young lady would love to hear from you via regular mail or by email: encarna@lpd13.navy.mil. She is stationed at Virginia Beach, VA currently. We welcome any members who are interested in working on our project. Please contact me maridalesmith@sbcglobal.net if you have names and mailing addresses of service personnel or if you would like to help our committee support the troops. Thank you!

Old Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa
SRRWF Member Elissa Wadleigh @ 228-8331
... Plan to join the SRRWF along with M.O.M.S. and many other organizations on that special day set aside to honor all those wonderful men and women who have volunteered to protect us from the worldwide threat of terrorism. It is now more important than ever to continue to express our love and support for the troops serving around the world. This is our chance to speak up on their behalf. The weeks between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are a wonderful time to proudly fly the flag, to stand up for what we believe in and to bring out the best in our fellow Americans. Don't forget to pick up a Support The Troops pin and other related items when visiting our table on June 24th. See you there! Maridale Smith, Americanism Chair
Call Elissa Wadleigh at 707 228-8331 if you would like to help the planning committee or purchase space to advertise in the program or on the webpage. What a great way to show our support and have fun while doing it!

Support the Troops Rally, PO Box 4333 Santa Rosa, CA, 95402
Rally at Meadowood, Napa, CA
April 21, 2006
Ann Sage, SRRWF Member, attends the Rally with her son to Support President Bush's visit to California
Hi Everyone,
I wanted you to know that Bubba (my youngest son) and I went to the rally last night (Friday, 4.21.06) to stand up for the troops and for my president.
If any of you have read the press democrat today (4.22.06) you will see a marine on page A15. He was at the same gathering place of the rally I was at and I walked up to him and thanked him for his service. We talked a bit and I told him that my husband is a former marine and my son is currently in the Army Reserve, he is an MP (in fact was at his base this whole week and weekend) and we just had a nice little chat. He was a very nice young man and I was grateful he was there. His name is Eric Schneider (I'm wondering if his mom is a member of M.O.M.S.).
Anyway, the rally was very nice. Yes, we ended up by getting verbally trashed by the left and no, I did not see any of our conservatives retaliate in kind. One woman did yell at me that I was stupid since she just had to pay $50.00 to fill her volvo (perhaps it needs regular upkeep since that's what it cost to fill my sons 25 gallon truck!!!!) and my response was that I wasn't the stupid one and perhaps she should ride a bike if it is such a horrific pain for her.
Anyway, we had lots of supporters there for the president and they were all in different areas of the gathering.
It was quite exciting for my son as well. He is a political information leader and was quite engaging in his conversation which is quite abnormal for my son. Usually he will not say a word to anyone and just "be there." But this is an area of which he is knowledgeable and strongly supportive of and he knows what he is talking about and engaged in lots of people's questions and regualr chat. I thought nothing in this world would draw him out of his world of near silence, but this did it. I was especially proud yesterday watching him converse with people, its a site I rarely see at all since he is so quiet.
If nothing else came of this, a personal growth did for him, and me as well. He didn't get to meet the president and of course, I already informed him that he most likely will not, but his reasons for going as was mine was not to meet someone famous, but to support a man that tries hard to make this world a better place and to support those men and women who allow my son and others like him the right to stand there and be heard. I just wanted all of you to know how the rally came out last night.
Ann
P.S. I have not been in St. Helena is ages and ages and I was taken by its beauty. What an enjoyable time and sight yesterday.
