Minutes of August 3, 2008 Steering Committee
Meeting began at 6:00pm PST

1. National Convention
Dan Roy will draft information about our group for a leaflet that will be distributed in Denver at national delegate breakfasts. We will target contacts in the following states: Washington, Arizona, Florida, Michigan and other states where we know national delegates. Doug Kelley suggested placing leaflets in advance on chairs. We will also attempt to attend
"special events" where national delegates can learn about us. Such events are now being scheduled. Those of us in Denver will want to keep in close contact via cell phone. Non-delegates may wish to have a card or letter that verifies that they are members of the Democratic Party.
2. Press Release/Blogs
Susan Federighi will be finalizing a draft of a press release this week; Dan Roy will review it and it will be shared with all the Steering Committee. We discussed dissemination before, during and after the national convention.
3. Campaign Materials
Doug Kelley is ready to place another order for 250 bumper stickers. Bruce Little will be ordering about 100 and Dan needs 25. Doug will be sending us a mock-up of t-shirts in navy blue with white letters, with the logo and web-site address on both front and back. Doug will need to order at least 25 shirts. Dan and Bruce plan tol be ordering after they have seen the mock-up.
4. Web-site
The web-site has had 1100 hits and 34 people have registered representing about 20 states when we include our Steering Committee members, some of whom have not yet registered. Send Bruce Little items
for the newsletter. Bruce will also work on changing photos on the front page.
5. Other
Each committee member needs to continue to identify friends who are grandparents and supporters in other states. Doug will be contacting Maryland people who have ordered bumper stickers.

Minutes, July 27, 2008 Steering Committee Meeting

Campaign Materials
Most of the meeting was devoted to a discusssion on adding t-shirts to
our campaign materials. Doug Kelley reported the need to make decisions
about costs and distribution, as well as design and color. We are
considering purchasing 50 shirts in navy blue with white letters, with
the logo and web-site address on both front and back. It was left that
Doug would draft an e-mail to Bruce and me for our review.
Press Release/Blogs
Susan Federighi will be finalizing a draft of a press release this
week; Dan Roy will review it and it will be shared with all the Steering
Committee before being sent. We will discuss dissemination at the next
conference call. Susan will continue to invite other myobama bloggers to
join us in our effort.
State Contacts:
We currently have about 18 states represented on our list of people who
have contacted and registered with us.
National Convention:
We may wish to consider putting together a leaflet that would be printed
in large numbers to be disseminated in Denver. If we participate in the
parade, we should have hand signs. The ideal would be to recruit someone
from Denver to assist us. We will need to further discuss next week.
Web-site.
Doug indicated that he had trouble registering on the web-site because
his e-mail address was rejected.
Other;
Each committee member needs to continue to identify friends who are
grandparents in other states.
Dan encouraged members to celebrate Obama's birthday at up-coming county
fairs and legislative district picnics. His LD will be having a picnic
the week of Obama's birthday and will include this celebration as part
of the event's activities.

Minutes July 20, 2008 Steering Committee Meeting

Correction: Susan Federighi is from San Rafael, California.
State Contacts:
Dan Roy will share list of Draft Gore supporters with Bruce Little; an e-mail will be sent to them soliciting support for our work. The goal is to have 25 state contacts before we add the state contact list back to the web-site and also before we send out a press release. All Steering Committee members will be added as state contacts. National delegates are particularly encouraged to contact other national delegates to join us.
Web-site:
Bruce Little described additions to the web-site. He also reminded us that to access the Administrative Page, the password is obamorama. We were all encouraged to sign up on the volunteer page and send grandparent photos. The web-site pages will reflect our new policy. It is that to be a member you must be a grandparent, but that "supporters" are enthusiastically welcomed! Other changes will include: on the activities page, a sentence on voter registration involvement and encouraging attendance at both the national convention and AARP convention, on the link page, include the link to national grandparents day and the AARP web-site, and on the front page, encourage grandparents to encourage young people to register to vote.
Campaign Materials
Doug Kelley reported back on the success of the Ann Arbor Art Fair. It was decided to leave the prices for materials identified on the web-site the same. Doug will report on the price of color t-shirts which will be discussed at the next conference call.
Press Release/Blogs
Susan Federighi will be inviting bloggers on various myobama.com groups to join our group. She will also be drafting a press release; Dan Roy will review it and it will be shared with all the Steering Committee before being sent. We will discuss dissemination at the next conference call.

7/14/08 -- Grandparents for Obama website is up and functioning normally. Log-in using .com or .org. Password for Administrators page is 'obamorama'. All Steering Committee Members should sign up as a Volunteer and for the Newsletter so they are in the database.

Bruce Little describled each page of the web-site. He also informed us that to access the Administrative Page, the password was obamorama. He listed other available pages. But, it was felt that there was no need to develop additional pages at this time. It was decided that the process we would follow is that Bruce Little would be the lead person for posting information on the web-site. The rest of us would send him content that he would then add. We were all encouraged to now sign up on the volunteer page.
It was felt that before we do a press release that we try to quickly expand our state representation. Dan Roy and Doug Kelley will follow-up by calling former Al Gore supporters who managed e-mail lists. Bruce Little has the Eric Schiller list of media. State contact people will be encouraged to read the web-site, distribute materials and generally promote the Grandparents for Obama message that older Americans, like younger ones, share similar concerns and issues and that Obama will bring about the kind of change our nation needs. Bruce Little will add Al Gore links to the web-site.
Campaign Collateral
Buttons, bumper stickers and t-shirts. Doug Kelly will be responsible for distribution and handling bumper stickers using Sawicki & Sons in Detroit. Dan Roy will handle buttons using Mitch Kuhn. Both will send Bruce Little e-mails describing their processes. Doug will also look into the price of color t-shirts which will be discussed at the next conference call.

Activities
1) House Parties. August 4th birthday party for Obama. Obama-rama. 47 great things about Obama.
2) Picnics
3) Financing of buttons, bumper stickers and t-shirts. Doug Kelly will help distribution and with handling finance coordination via local Democratic Party. All materials must be 100% union made. Sawicki & Sons in Detroit have made an initial batch of bumper stickers available for 48 cents net /55 cents each retail in bulk. A sample of the bumper sticker, button and t-shirt will be emailed to all members. Color t-shirts, printed front and back, are going to be available for about $7.50 net.
Website
1) Bruce Little to add content to existing site.
2) Having our own blog or blogging on others to increase visibility. Some problems with negative comments on blogs and links to viruses.
