| The 3-Point Plan for Rural Nevada’s Revitalization
Water- Next to our children, water is our most precious resource. Our water rights are under attack by frivolous federal protests. Nevada must retain its sovereignty over its waters; and it is incumbent upon the rural counties to develop long range plans to maintain their ownership of this precious resource.
Economic Development- Assembly District 36 is very diverse, with both urban and rural concerns. In the rapidly growing areas of this district we need to concentrate on creating adequate funding opportunities for our towns and counties, so that their infrastructure will keep up with their growth demands; infrastructure such as roads and flood control.
The rural areas have been relying upon ranching, mining and farming. Although this has worked in the past, more must be done to expand their economic base. I believe such opportunities will come in the form of Green Energy, such as solar, geothermal, bio-fuel and wind power.
Education: We need to expand the educational opportunities for our residents. Giving our educational system more flexibility to offer vocational and technical training, so that our children do not have to leave our towns to further their education, would do this. Economic development is impossible for us when our future businesspeople must leave to find employment, many times to other states. It is important that we bring the best educational opportunities and degree programs to the smaller communities.
This is the 3-point plan.
¨ We develop long-term strategies, such as moving the water intensive businesses to the water. As an alternative to transferring our water out of our counties, we can save this valuable resource and boost our economic development.
¨ We help our communities with infrastructure needs and concentrate on increasing the economic base of the more rural areas.
¨ We offer excellent educational opportunities to our future business leaders, in vocational, technological and degree programs.
We need fewer bureaucrats and more bricks and mortar. We need to maximize the efficacy of how our government spends our money. I am asking you to elect me because you can depend on me to fight for rural Nevada’s rights, to concentrate on our communities’ growth and prosperity, and to not make more broken promises that simply demand more of your money to special interests.
Major Issues to be Addressed
Ethics and Accountability- When you file an ethics complaint, you are not allowed to have any information regarding your complaint and what is being done. It falls into a “Black Hole”. The Ethic’s Commission has 45-days to investigate the complaint and bring it to a hearing. If the Ethic’s Commission misses this deadline, then the elected official, who is under investigation, must give permission for the investigation to continue.
Can you imagine this? The person who may have broken the law has to give their permission in order to be investigated. Some complaints in Assembly District 36 have been dropped for this very reason.
This is unacceptable.
Two things must be done to bring ethics and accountability back to our government:
- Extend the 45-day Statute of Limitations to one year, thereby allowing the Commission the time it needs to fully investigate the allegations.
- Citizens who file a complaint should be able to track it through the system and know that their complaint is being taken seriously.
Sexual Predators- Local law enforcement must notify the schools of nearby sexual predators, but not you, so that you can protect your children. “Megan’s Law” should be fully implemented to include neighborhood notification.
Of course, in order for Megan’s law to work, we have to depend on violent, predatory felons to follow the law and notify law enforcement agencies of their whereabouts. Many sexual offenders are in ‘non-compliance’. This means that the people who are likely to hurt our most defenseless citizens, are wondering around, and the local law enforcement agencies have no idea where they’re at.
I want to implement “Jessica’s Law” so that we could outfit these predators with a GPS system. Our law enforcement agencies would no longer need to depend on felons to follow the law. A system like this could save valuable time, and save our children. |
