On February 5, District 200 residents voted 14,730 to 10,728 to permit the District to issue $58,000,000 of debt to purchase land in Warrenville and construct a new middle school there. The referendum question did not address what to do with the current Hubble property; however, the District has indicated that it will sell the current site once the new school is built.
In keeping with our mission, the Educate 200 Foundation will continue its involvement to make sure that the District keeps its promises made in connection with the referendum. Areas of emphasis will include (1) making sure that all promised facilities are delivered within the $58 million budget, (2) monitoring the process of selling the current facility to ensure that the District does not sell for less than the appraised value of the property, and that no TIF or other incentives are used to divert tax money to private interests, and (3) advocating for users of the current facilities to make sure they are accommodated elsewhere, as promised.
