YOUTH FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

 FROM 2007

 

·          Rented facilities to the Town of Amherst Youth Board to operate its after-school child care program and vacation camp that serves the Williamsville School District. The program served approx. 53 elementary school children per day, or 175 different children in 2007. 131 different families were served

 

·          Operated Melissa’s Coffee House and served 500+ teenagers over the course of the year from throughout the Town and surrounding communities

·          Operated Our Place under the leadership of a very active parents committee and a part time staff person, serving 37 different participants in over 40 social and community service activities

 

·          Expanded partnership and rental agreements to serve more children, families and community organizations, including several scout troops, Mathewson-McCarthy Little League, an SAT prep course, and the Amherst Symphony to name a few

 

·          Hosted a Gandhi Day of Service for youth and adults who came out and cleaned our building and grounds to beautify them

·          Continued our Amherst Middle School Advantage After-School Program, funded through the Office of Children and Family Services and run in collaboration with the Youth Board, which served 45 youth per day, and 113 different children during 2007

·          We estimate having served over 8200 youth, parents and residents at the facility or in the community in 2007, with total attendance topping 28,000

·          Received a $5,000 grant from the Elmezzi Foundation for children’s services

·          Received $50,000 from the Joe Lang Foundation for the Eggertsville project

 

·          Raised $36,600 in the annual gala, golf tournament and 12 hour relay, an increase of $13,600, or 59% more than in 2006

 

·          Received notice of a grant of $110,000 for energy conservation work from the New York Power Authority and with the help of Senator Mary Lou Rath

·          Received notice of a grant of $147,000 from Congressman Tom Reynolds for our gym, playground and other facility and grounds renovations

·          Received notice of a Vista Volunteer grant award, which will approximate $40,000 over 3 years

·          Received a $1500 grant from the McLain Foundation

 

·          Notified of approval of request to United Way for a UB Graduate School of Social Work Project to help the Foundation complete a 5 year Strategic Plan

·          Notified of approval of request to United Way for UB Business School internship project to provide help with marketing strategies

·          Received $4,000 from the annual Amherst North Rotary TV Auction

·         Received $6,000 from the annual Rotary Car Show
