Welcome!

We need to push for funding for a nuclear research center in the Climate Change bill.  Visit our What's New page to send a message today!

New study says US needs to invest in a long-term strategy for storing nuclear material.

According to a report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy, to meet energy demands and address global warming, the US will likely increase the number of nuclear plants, as nuclear is the cleanest and most affordable source of energy.  This makes it increasingly critical for the government to commit to a long-term storage strategy.  Read the report at www.energyxxi.org.

Who We Are

The Alliance for Nevada's Economic Prosperity is a group of Nevadans who want the state to take a neutral approach to the Yucca Mt. project and conduct an unbiased assessment of the safety factors and economic impact of the project - not as a long term storage facility but as a center for nuclear research and reprocessing.

Our vision for the Yucca repository includes it serving as an interim repository, reprocessing the waste on site to vastly reduce the toxicity and half-life of the waste material - and possibly using the residual fuel to generate inexpensive and clean power for Las Vegas - and an R&D complex that will advance renewable energies and advance nuclear engineering technologies.

There are substantial monies available if the state would enter into serious negotiations, something the state has refused to do!   These funds can help keep the Yucca site safe and fund our state budget with minimal tax implications.

Over the last two decades, the Nevada Nuclear Waste Project Office (NWPO) and almost the entire state’s political establishment have taken a head-in-the-sand approach to the national nuclear waste repository, never daring to even consider the possibility that the facility might actually benefit Nevada.

In the process, the NWPO propaganda machine built with taxpayer dollars developed a PR campaign, with help from some uber-liberal groups, which have exaggerated many of the threats and out-and-out lied about others.

Before this year, anyone who even remotely suggested that Nevada should take a more neutral position on Yucca Mountain and evaluate the project in an unbiased, open-minded fashion has been lambasted, accused of "selling Nevada's future and safety."

While many elected officials will tell you privately that they are open to a more rational discussion of Yucca Mountain, there aren’t very many profiles in courage who will say so publicly.

So we started this website to get out the TRUTH about Yucca so that we Nevadans can analyze the project and make a decision to support or oppose it based on the truth.

Thanks for visiting.  Check the "What's New" page for updates.  And we need your help, so please visit our donations page.

Sincerely,

Randi Thompson
