"If we have moderate good fortune around the USA with various petition drives already underway (this means all minor parties and statewide independent candidates, not just Libertarian ones), and if we win the New Mexico lawsuit, then it will be true that in November 2006, in the 47 states with statewide offices up for a vote, Alabama will be the only one with a Democratic-Republican monopoly in those statewide races." -- National Ballot Access expert Richard Winger

Alabama has some of the toughest ballot access restrictions in the country. In order for a third party or independent candidate to get on the ballot, I'll need to turn in around 65,000 signatures (I need 42,000 certified petition signatures, but they always reject a bunch of them) to the Secretary of State's office by June 6. Collecting this many signatures costs serious money, but I know we can do it.

While we've been actively collecting signatures for some time, we have a long way to go -- and I'm going to have to immediately bring in professional petition circulators. It seems that the Alabama legislature has intentionally set the access barrier so high that paying petitioners is the only route to get on the ballot.

If you feel that I have the right to be on the ballot, please click the "Donate" button below.

With your immediate contributions, we can do it!
