Hello Alabama!
Thank you for dropping in for a visit. Here you will find out all about me and my vision for the great state of Alabama.
For the last three years I have worked diligently to reform Alabama's drug laws. As you can probably imagine it has not been an easy task. What I have discovered in my travels across this state however, is that people from all sides of the political arena disagree with current drug laws and would like to see them changed.
Alabama citizens, both young and old, black and white, rich and poor, drug users and non-users all say that the laws should be changed but that they are afraid to speak up because they fear being targeted by the police. And rightfully so!
My introduction to politics came about as the result of my arrest, which according to the affidavit, was based on a Letter to the Editor I wrote to the Birmingham News back in 2002 calling for voters to change the drug laws. That letter was published two days after the last gubernatorial election between former Gov. Don Siegelman and current Gov. Bob Riley and my arrest occurred 6 days later.
I have learned that the "drug war" is nothing more than a government jobs program which creates the crime it claims to protect us from and tramples the Bill of Rights in the process. It isn't designed to be successful because if it were then those promoting it would be out of a job.
It is also used as a tool for marginalizing certain segments of society, namely poor people and minorities, and as a cover for taking away every citizens right to privacy and gun ownership.
I have been unrelenting in my counter attack against the police and courts and my case is on appeal awaiting a jury trial.
I think it is a shame that Alabamians fear their government. After all, when the people fear the government you have tyranny, but when the government fears the people you have democracy.
I hope that by running for Governor I will give Alabamians who wish for change in our barbaric drug laws the opportunity to voice their dissent without fear of retribution.
If you believe that drug policy reform is needed in Alabama and you agree with my ideas then I ask you to support my campaign by making a contribution, volunteering, collecting signatures for ballot access and telling your family, friends and co-workers about my campaign.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments using the information provided on this website.
I look forward to meeting you along the campaign trail in the coming months.
In Liberty,
Loretta Nall
