Grey and his wife, Jennifer, were married in Mooresville in 1997.  They now live on Lake Norman with their three children, Alexandria, Grey III, and Grant.

Both Grey and Jennifer grew up in Iredell County.  Grey is a graduate of Mooresville High School, Appalachian State University, and Regent University School of Law.  Jennifer is a graduate of Mooresville High School and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Grey has been active in the Republican Party for many years.  He served as the Chairman of the Iredell County Republican Party for four years, as well as South Area Captain, and a Precinct Chairman and Vice Chairman.  Grey has served as a volunteer on numerous Republican campaigns since 1992.

Grey is currently serving in his first term in the North Carolina General Assembly.  At the General Assembly, he serves on the following committees:  Aging, Appropriations, Education, Judiciary III, Water Resources, and Commerce & Small Business.

Grey and Jennifer are active members of Mooresville First Baptist Church in downtown Mooresville.  Grey has served as a former Deacon, former Stewardship Chairman, and a former Sunday School Teacher.  Jennifer has served as a former Sunday School Preschool Director and as a nursery volunteer.

Both Grey's and Jennifer's families are members of First Baptist as well.  Grey's parents live close to downtown Mooresville, and Jennifer's parents live in Iredell County.

Grey's parents owned a local Hallmark Card and Gift Shop in downtown Mooresville for many years.  Jennifer's family has owned an Iredell County car dealership since 1991.

In 1998, Grey co-founded Mills & Levine, P.A., Attorneys-At-Law.  Before starting the law firm, Grey's prior work experience included serving as an Assistant District Attorney and teaching Government, Economics, and U.S. History at South Iredell High School.
