HISTORY
Randi's first job after college was in Washington DC where she was a President Reagan appointee at the Department of the Interior, doing Congressional Affairs for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
She moved to the Department of Energy where she lobbied Congress in support of the Superconducting Super Collider, a high-energy physics laboratory.
She left government for the private sector to work as a llobbyist for the Super Collider, representing the project manager, Parson Brinkerhoff. She was also a lobbyist on behalf of utility companies during the Clean Air Amendments of 1990.
She served as Executive Director of the Industry Association for the Super Collider, lobbying Congress on behalf of the companies building the project, which included Westinghouse, Martin Marietta, General Dynamics, Gruman, Parsons Brinkerhoff, SAIC, Lockheed, and other Fortune 100 firms. (The project was killed by Congress two years after Randi left DC.)
She returned to Nevada in 1992 and started a government and media relations business. She managed political campaigns, coordinated fundraisers, lobbied the state legisiature, and was hired by UNR to create PACK PAWS, a women’s athletic booster organization. She worked as the media & government affairs coordinator for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Reno for 5 years, but left that position in 2004 to run for the State Assembly. She also ran in 2006. While unsuccessful in the elections, the experience she gained has helped her grow both professionally and personally.
Randi has a BS in Journalism from the University of Oregon, and is a graduate of Reno high school.
Her past community activities include Executive Director of Nevada Gifted & Talented, a board member for the Food Bank and for the Make - A - Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada, and for PACK PAWS at UNR. She has also produced several concerts for her sister, Cami Thompson.
