Growing up, I remember listening to Zig Ziglar’s tapes. One point that jumped out to me when he said, “You can be infinitely more effective in your today’s, if your tomorrow is taken care of.”
What is my tomorrow? We don’t even know what is going to happen to us 5 seconds from now, so how can I know what my tomorrow will be.
Have you ever been in a accident? I was rear-ended once at a stop sign. Didn’t even know it until the screeching of tires and a split second later feeling the impact from behind. Reality became very real.
When I was in the United States Army going through some training, our instructor came in and told us that we were going to war against Iraq. Reality once again became very real.
Isn’t life like that? We know in our mind all the different possibilities that can happen, but until it does, it often doesn’t seem possible or real.
We all have a beginning with our birth, and one day we will all have an end. As I go through my journey, I may not know the when or the how, but because I’ve taken care of my tomorrow, I can know the where and the who. Isn’t that the most important part, the final destination?
You see, years ago, I came to the conclusion that there is more to life than what is readily visible by the naked eye. The clues are all around us. Just look at the wonder and complexity of nature.
When I see a beautiful painting I know there is an artist. When I see a massive bridge spanning a mighty river, I know there is an engineer. When I see a stately house I know their is a architect, and when I see creation, I know there is a Creator.
I also know that if He created all this with purpose and direction He must also have a purpose and direction for my life, too. What’s really exciting to me is that the more I trust Him and seek His will, the more I find out that the things I want to do are really in His plan for me. More than that, the God of the universe who created everything has given me the talents and abilities to accomplish that purpose.
Some people call this religion, and often I do, too, because that is the easiest way to convey this idea. The truth is, it’s not “religion”, it is a relationship. The Lord God of all creation created you and I to have a relationship with Him. His intention was to walk and talk with us in the cool of the day and share our lives.
I may not know my tomorrow, but I have a relationship with the one who does. I would encourage you to consider reality before it becomes all too real, and take care of your tomorrow so that your today can be infinitely more effective.
The Word of God tells us that we are separated from Him because we have chosen our own way. We can restore that relationship by confessing our sins and asking Jesus Christ to come into our heart. Believe me, the God who created you wants to restore that relationship more than you know.
