Creating Jobs
For too long young families have been forced out of state by high taxes and struggling economic development. Albany has ignored our concerns. We need change.
Fred Goodman supports creating real jobs through a non-partisan approach to economic development. When New York City was in trouble in the 1970's the State stepped in and provided help. Now Upstate needs help. Although Schenectady County is coming back, that is only because it has pulled itself up by the boot straps with Metroplex. The State must take action.
Fred supports a major economic reinvestment through making use of the great college and university system in Upstate New York. By funding new job training programs, we can create a new green job workforce that will help make New York the leader in this new economy. With GE, Von Roll, and SuperPower calling this Senate District home, this plan will provide critical new growth to the entire area. Investing in wind turbines, fuel cells, solar energy, and hydro power will cut energy costs, create local high-paying jobs and make New York more friendly to business and families.
The effect of a toll-free highway can easily be seen by the expansive growth economically around the Northway. That is why Fred supports ending commuter tolls from Thruway exits 24 to 29 to help encourage growth throughout the Capital District and Mohawk Valley.
Fred will also work with localities to find localized solutions to economic issues and support local renewal efforts. It is critical to understand the diversity of this district and that what works for Amsterdam is not necessarily the best plan for Rotterdam, Johnstown, Corinth or St. Johnsville. Fred supports a 100% match on local tax dollar investments such as Metroplex for economic growth. Fred will meet regularly with local officials and hold town hall meetings in each area of the district to hear relevant concerns and look for community solutions.
Together, our communities' best days can still be ahead of us.
