 Cutting Taxes
Fred has a three point plan that will cut property taxes to help seniors keep their homes and spur economic development.
1. Bring an End to Unfunded Mandates -
For too long Albany has ignored the cries of property taxpayers to provide real relief. Most counties throughout New York have between 70-80% of their budgets mandated by the State which forces high property taxes without local control. We need to end the practice of balancing the state budget by further burdening property taxpayers.
2. Cut Your County Property Taxes in Half with a State Takeover of Medicaid -
Half of all county property taxes go to pay for Medicaid alone. New York is one of the last states in the country to use this regressive funding format to pay for this program. With a state takeover of this program, there will be real property tax relief, new jobs, and economic development for New York.
3. Create a Property Tax Circuit Breaker -
This will set a maximum percentage of a person's income one would spend on property taxes. By doing this, seniors will be able to keep their homes. Families struggling in this tough economy won't need to decide between heat and high taxes. This is real relief without robbing schools of badly needed funding to improve education.
