| My three issues of concern are: responsible development, mass transit, and health care. Responsible development needs to occur. Every attempt should be made to ensure the preservation of the environment, open spaces, and wetlands. Green construction practices should be required or encouraged in the specifications for roads, new construction, and redevelopments.
A safe, efficient, and cost effective regional mass transit system is of paramount importance to Oakland County. Cooperative, responsible regional development will relieve traffic congestion, reduce air pollution, alleviate the need for more parking structures/lots, and reduce gas consumption. A mass transit system would attract business and industry to the entire region.
Many residents of Oakland County lack adequate health care coverage. Every endeavor should be made to maintain the level of current health care funding for children, seniors, and the indigent. By placing a strong emphasis on preventative health care programs, overall health care costs could be reduced.
