Joe Beverly is a Democrat running for Chief Justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals.
Joe is sixth generation Texan on his father’s side and a fourth generation Texan on his mother’s side. Both sides of his family have deep roots in Texas and an abiding respect for our great State. Joe was born and raised in Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a B.A. in Economics. Joe was an officer at Texas Commerce Bank in Austin for several years before deciding to pursue a career in law. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1990 with honors. He was Executive Editor and Book Review Editor of the American Journal of Criminal Law and received several awards and scholarships during law school. After law school, he was a Briefing Attorney for Judge Charles F. Campbell on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest criminal court in Texas. While working for Judge Campbell, Joe drafted over 20 opinions for the Court including important decisions in death penalty, search and seizure and white collar criminal cases.
Joe started his private legal practice in 1991 with the long-established Houston firm of Dow, Cogburn & Friedman, P.C. After nine years, Joe established his own trial and appellate practice. In 2001, Joe helped found the law firm of Dow Golub Berg & Beverly, LLP. His trial and appellate practice has included, matters as varied as telecommunications, environmental contamination, construction, real estate, landlord-tenant, contract, partnership, whistleblower, employment, commercial note, collection, securities fraud, personal injury and takings cases. He has more than sixty trials and appeals in state and federal court and has argued appeals in the First, Third, Ninth and Fourteenth Texas Courts of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has also filed amicus curiae briefs on behalf of several municipal and industry associations in the courts of appeals. Joe is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Joe has been married to Laura H. Beverly for 20 years. They have one son, Evan who is in Second Grade and is the leading scorer for his soccer team.

Admitted to practice in Texas, United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Texas and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
