Ron Gambardella announced his candidacy for Mayor of Hamden on March 20, 2009 in front of a crowd of over 150 supporters.
Ron and his wife, Kathy, live on Ingleside Drive in Dunbar Hill, where they have resided for the past 25 years. Ron moved to Hamden because of its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. "In short, Hamden is my kind of town!"
They attend St. Stephen's Church, where Ron serves on the Parish Council. Both Ron and Kathy are quite active in community affairs.
Growing up during the Vietnam War era, Ron's strong sense of duty to our nation led him to join the United States Navy. According to Ron, "Joining the Armed Forces was fulfilling what I believed was my obligation to serve." Ron worked in the engine room as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class operating in the 6th Fleet, serving aboard the USS Neosho. In 1975, Ron was honorably discharged as a Vietnam Era Veteran.
With an MBA in Finance from the University of New Haven, Ron has an extensive background in accounting and tax preparation. Currently a small business owner in Hamden, he also has over 20 years of budget experience working as an analyst for major corporations including Anthem Blue Cross, Northeast Utilities and SBC.
Governor M Jodi Rell recently appointed Ron as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Technical and Community Colleges. The nomination was unanimously approved by the General Assembly.
Ron Gambardella is known as an advocate for reasonable taxes and a stable mill rate. He understands budgets and the importance of setting long-term financial goals to help plan a brighter future for Hamden.
While a member of the Legislative Council from 2003-2007, Ron played an active role in advocating for the residents of Hamden:
- Opposed all budgets that created a burden on the taxpayers.
- Promoted a “phase in” approach to the initial tax increase ordered by Mayor Henrici.
- Promoted more detail on taxpayers tax bill.
- Recommended five year budgets.
- Recommended modern budgeting practice to the town council.
- Advocated for a modernized financial and accounting mechanized system.
- Promoted fair and balanced union contracts.
- Opposed creating jobs that were just favors owed by the mayor.
- Opposed the purchase of an SUV for the mayor.
