I want to thank the many friends, supporters and neighbors who made my six years in the Assembly such a memorable and fulfilling time. I thoroughly enjoyed working with each of you to address the issues and problems facing our communities.
It is a great feeling to wake up every day and know you have the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Each of us can find that satisfaction in many ways. I certainly have felt it as a classroom teacher, as a community volunteer and as the mayor of my hometown.
But there is something special about the challenges and opportunities of working in the state legislature. I left with a feeling of accomplishment, but also with a feeling that there is much more to be done – and much more that I can offer to the people of California.
That is why I have decided to run for a seat in the California State Senate. My long-time friend and mentor, Senator Jack Scott, is termed out of office in 2008. I hope the voters will choose me to succeed him.
In the coming months I'll use this website to discuss my ideas and goals for California. I’m excited about the campaign and looking forward to working with you again.
