| Michael J. (Mike) Reagan joined the Solano County Board of Supervisors in January, 2005 and is now serving in his second four-year term. The 5th District encompasses eastern Solano County; including the cities of Dixon, Rio Vista, the eastern portions of Vacaville and Suisun City, and the unincorporated towns of Elmira, Birds landing and Collinsville. He served as the Chair of the Board of Supervisors for 2007.
Born in 1949, in Courtland, N.Y., Mike spent most of his youth in Wilmington, Del. After enlisting in the Air Force Reserves as an Airman in 1971, Mike quickly received his commission as an officer through Officer’s Training School (OTS). A retired Lieutenant Colonel, Mike spent nearly three decades in the United States Air Force. His distinguished military career included command of the two largest Services Squadrons in Air Mobility Command, one at Rhein Main Air Base in Germany and the other here at Travis AFB. Before coming to Travis, his assignments included heading the Washington, D.C. office of the Air Force Commissary Service – the $2 billion grocery store chain for the men and women of the military – and service in the Pentagon as a Legislative Liaison officer to Congress. While stationed at Travis, he also managed the $145 million construction project that modified the base to house 27 KC-10 aircraft, and the more than 1,300 jobs that come with them. He culminated his military career with three years as Director of Staff for the installation commander at Travis Air Force Base.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1999, Mike was hired by the Northern Solano County Association of Realtors®, where, as the Executive Vice President, he took the lead on revamping personnel management practices and local political advocacy efforts – most notably by leading successful lobbying for an increase in the military’s basic allowance for housing which allowed military families to escape substandard living conditions into the local community.
Building on his experience as the go-to link between Congress, State and Local governments and the Air Force, Mike was quickly recruited to serve as a senior advisor to and District Representative for covering Solano, Yolo, and Sacramento Counties for then-State Senator Maurice Johannessen, who represented Solano and 10 other Northern California counties for nearly a decade. Mike was instrumental in passage of several laws that protect veterans and help family farmers in Solano County, and drafted legislation that recognizes the heroic acts of public safety officers.
After Senator Johannessen’s retirement in 2002, Mike was asked to create a new legislative advocacy strategy for the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce. Through Mike’s leadership, the Chamber built a successful program in 2003 to lobby legislators in support of bills that create jobs, properly size public infrastructure, and help schools.
In 2004, Mike was asked to work with Congressman Doug Ose (CA. 3), as senior policy advisor on National and Homeland Security issues – working primarily to help Northern California communities near military bases prepare for the 2005 round of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). He also helped the California National Guard work drug interdiction and homeland security enhancements.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Niagara University in New York and completed several graduate-level executive developement courses with the Air Force.
He and his wife, Joanie, live in Vacaville with their two daughters, Shannon and Casey.
