Entire GOP Ticket Leads by Nine in Washington Post Poll

McDonnell 53-44

Bolling 49-40

Cuccinelli 49-40

What this Washington Post poll indicates is that our consistently positive message of boosting the economy, solving transportation problems, creating jobs and improving the economy is resonating with the people of Virginia. Ours is the party of lower taxes and greater freedom and the people are responding!

The numbers also tell us that the relentlessly negative and deceitful campaigns run by our opponents are turning off voters with alarming frequency, proving that it is better to motivate people to be for good ideas than it is to try to incite people to be against them.

There is plenty more to do with just over three weeks left to go before the election, but things are definitely moving in our direction. While the news is encouraging, what this tells us is that we must work even harder to ensure that our Republican candidates carry the ball over the goal line. Poll numbers are just that - poll numbers. What really counts is making sure that our voters turn out on November 3rd.

Read the Post’s Poll.

The News Just Gets Better for Republicans

Even According to the Washington Post:

The latest Washington Post poll of the Virginia gubernatorial race represents more than bad news for Democratic nominee R. Creigh Deeds. The findings paint a portrait of the electorate that, if replicated elsewhere, stands as a warning sign for President Obama and Democrats who will be running in next year's midterm elections.

The poll shows a lack of enthusiasm among many of the voters who propelled Obama and his party to victory last November, raising troubling questions for the Democrats: Were many of Obama's 2008 energetic supporters one-time participants in the political process who care little about other races? Is Obama's current agenda turning off some voters who backed him last year but now might be looking elsewhere?

Earlier this year, when the president's national approval rating was considerably higher than it is today, Democratic strategists noticed the sentiment wasn't extending to his party. That appears the case in Virginia, too: Obama's numbers in the commonwealth have held steady since September, but Deeds has fallen back and now trails Republican nominee Robert F. McDonnell by nine percentage points among likely voters.

Washington Post: Poll May Point to Democratic Worries Beyond the Old Dominion

"White House officials have been frustrated by the way Deeds has run his campaign -- "Creigh Deeds has not been the world's greatest candidate, that's for sure," one senior administration official said -- and are more pessimistic about his chances of winning than they were last summer. Tensions between the White House and the Deeds camp were exacerbated further this week by Deeds's comments.

Which were:

Deeds may bear part of the responsibility for what's happening in Virginia, having tried to distance himself from the president. The latest came earlier this week at an event sponsored by ABC 7/WJLA-TV, Politico, Google and YouTube.

"Frankly, a lot of what's going on in Washington has made it very tough," Deeds said then. "We had a very tough August because people were just uncomfortable with the spending; they were uncomfortable with a lot of what was going on, a lot of the noise that was coming out of Washington, D.C."

By stepping away from Obama and the White House, he has given less incentive for those who were motivated primarily by Obama to come out and vote next month.

Democrats in Dismay Over Tone of Deeds Campaign

Prominent Democrats are pleading with Creigh Deeds to switch off the negativity and run a legitimate campaign that explains why he wants to be governor, other than explaining why he doesn’t like Bob McDonnell so much.

It doesn’t seem like Creigh has listened yet.

Deeds and his Strong Support for Cap and Trade

Creigh Deeds, a known supporter of the job-killing "Cap-and-Trade" proposal in Congress, has attempted to conceal his position on the issue because of growing public skepticism of the economic effects of the environmental monstrosity. Deeds has consistently and unequivocally supported the concept, but now offers a qualified answer in the hopes of dodging direct questions on the crucial policy matter. The truth is that he has voiced strong support for a measure that goes further in harming the economy than the ones Congress is considering.

Bolling Back on TV with New Ad

Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling's re-election campaign has released its third ad, titled "Record," which highlights Democrat Jody Wagner's consistent support of higher taxes on Virginia families and businesses.

"During a time of record unemployment and significant economic decline, Virginians should be very concerned about Jody Wagner's consistent support of job-killing tax increases," said Matt Wells, Bolling for Lieutenant Governor Campaign Manager. "Jody Wagner has supported every major tax increase proposed over the last 8 years, including increasing the sales tax by 20% and imposing higher taxes on small businesses and seniors. If she is elected Lieutenant Governor, Wagner has pledged to work with Creigh Deeds to raise taxes on Virginia's families, even during these difficult economic times.”

Cuccinelli Destroys Shannon in Debates

In two debates, Ken Cuccinelli clearly bested Democrat Steve Shannon on qualifications.

In one instance, Shannon was unable to describe the structure and duties of the different divisions of the Office of Attorney General. Watch the video here.

In another, Shannon embraced a radical environmentalist agenda.

Voters Report Steve Shannon Push Poll

Democratic candidate for attorney general Steve Shannon is apparently employing the underhanded tactic of “push polling” against Republican Ken Cuccinelli as recent polls show the Democrat’s campaign and debate appearances failing. Push polls are disguised as legitimate polls, but feature questions designed to move opinions in a particular direction. Registered voters in Virginia have reported receiving such phone calls from the polling firm Shannon has hired.

We’re not surprised that Steve Shannon is using every dirty trick in the book against Ken Cuccinelli. He’s a disaster in debates and he’s far, far behind in every poll.

Kaine Leads Virginia to 51st Place on Roads

Part-Time Governor Puts Virginia Dead Last Behind All Other States and DC

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine has dragged Virginia into 51st place – out of a possible 51 – in expending federal funding intended for transportation projects. Virginia placed behind all other states and the District of Columbia, earning a harshly-worded letter from the Democratic Chairman of the House Committee that oversees transportation issues.

Candidate Update

Ron Villanueva - Candidate for H.O.D 21st District

Ron Villanueva is running a great campaign against incumbent Bob Mathieson in Virginia Beach with less than a month to go until November 3rd. Ron was the youngest-ever candidate elected to Virginia Beach City Council in 2002 and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2006.

Having passed the largest tax-rate reduction in Virginia Beach history, Ron will take that same philosophy to the General Assembly to ensure lower taxes, more jobs and greater economic opportunity for all. He is a product of public schools and currently has three of his four children in local public schools and will work to improve educational opportunities for every child.

With the race winding down, Ron can certainly use your help as he pursues this great opportunity to take this seat in the House of Delegates. Please donate your time and financial resources by visiting him on the Internet at www.votevillanueva.com.
