Legislation:

Many key pieces of legislation Liu authored during her tenure in the Assembly were signed into law.  These included bills to:

• reinvigorate career and technical education programs at the high school level
• lower the costs of college textbooks
• protect foster children,
• prevent domestic violence
• create a statewide groundwater quality monitoring system
• provide college loan forgiveness to members of the National Guard
• require more stringent licensing for drivers who transport students
• seize gang members' ill-gotten gains
• confiscate computers used in crimes by convicted child pornographers
• increase required treatment time for those convicted of DUI
• fight identity theft by preventing social security numbers from showing on the outside of mailings
• strengthen criteria for conservators named to administer the affairs of incapacitated individuals
• Carol was also well know for her efforts to require insurance companies to cover the cost of tests for detecting ovarian cancer, for working with other legislators to update the state's master plan for education, and for fighting to prevent off-shoring of jobs funded by state contracts.
