James Broadwater was born in 1963 in Jackson, Mississippi and is 44 years old. He grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi, and went on to earn an associate's degree at Mississippi Delta Junior College, a bachelor's degree in History at the University of Southern Mississippi, and a master of divinity degree at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary - Southern California Campus. He has been a state government worker in Mississippi for four years, and is a former minister (13 years) and educator (3 years).
James has been involved in community service and has received professional accolades. In 1994, he led disaster relief teams into Los Angeles eleven times after a major earthquake in Southern California. In 1995, he sang on the album Godly Men: Songs of the Promise Keepers, which was nominated for a Dove Award. In 1999, he was inducted into Who's Who Among American Professionals and Business Executives. In 2001-2002, he authored the Community Marriage Agreement for Bogalusa, Louisiana. And in 2003, he served as a faculty advisor with the YMCA Youth Legislature program. In 2006, James was National Day of Prayer coordinator for the state agency for which he works. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister at First Baptist Church, Waveland, Mississippi in 1998, and was licensed into the ministry at Yale Street Baptist Church in Cleveland, Mississippi in 1989. He holds the MPSA Class A teaching certificate in History and English (Grades 7-12), and the Class AA teaching certificate in Bible, and has taught in both public and private schools. He is also a veteran of a combat unit in the Mississippi Army National Guard.
An active Republican, James ran for US Congress in 2004 (Mississippi District Two), for State Representative in 2007, and for US Congress in 2008 (Mississippi District Three), and served as precinct delegate to the Hinds County Republican Convention in 2004.
He is an active hunter, traveler, and conservative activist. He belongs to the National Rifle Association (who has given him an A rating) and the Heritage Foundation (America's leading public policy research institute dedicated to free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense). He is a long-time supporter of numerous Christian and conservative organizations, including Focus on the Family and Focus on the Family Action, Family Research Council (FRC) and FRC Action, the Center for Reclaiming America for Christ, WallBuilders (David Barton), the American Family Association, Eagle Forum (Phyllis Schlafly), the Alliance Defense Fund, the Christian Law Association, Liberty Counsel, the Christian Legal Society, Restoring America (Rev. Peter Marshall), Providence Forum, and Pro-Life Mississippi.
James is married to Lelane Broadwater. They live in Jackson with their ten-year-old son Joshua. |
