Sheriff Joseph F. McGinn

Sheriff Joe McGinn is a lifelong resident of Delaware County.  Currently serving his fifth year as Delaware County Sheriff, Joe has a record of working to make the Sheriff’s Office more responsive to the needs of local residents while also cutting costs in various programs to maintain a balanced budget.  Through his fiscal responsibility, he has helped to keep county taxes low for the citizens of Delaware County.

He's worked to improve child support collection, educate young people about the dangers of drugs, started a gun safety program to reduce gun violence, improved the county's homeland security readiness, enhanced training of sheriff's deputies, and created a Delaware County K-9 explosive detection unit.  He has also worked to educate homeowners about their rights in the event of foreclosure proceeedings.  

 

Joe served our country in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. In recognition of his service, McGinn was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

Active in the local community, McGinn is the founder of the Sheriff’s Run for Scholarships, which has raised more than $50,000 for scholarships at local schools through the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund.  Sheriff McGinn has also served as an Associate Professor at Delaware County Community College and a Commissioner in his hometown of Lower Chichester from 1988 until 2001.

A graduate of Sun Valley High School, McGinn earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Temple University and  Masters of Education Administration from Cheyney University thanks in part to the GI Bill.  McGinn and his wife Judie have two children, Joe, Jr. and Kellie.
