Thank you for visiting my page; I have been a resident of Brentwood for the last 10 years and very active in the community... I've been married to my lovely wife for 16 years and have 3 lovely children. I am presently a union delegate for the International Union. And prior to that I was a General Manager in the Municipal Solid Waste Industry for over 20 years. I currently serve on memberships of labor councils as well as member of the National Institute for Latino Policy and the Hispanic Federation as well as a member of the NAACP. I am also a member of the distinguished Lions Club hear in Brentwood.
I also instill spirituality in my life to keep myself grounded and level in the things that I do, and I am very active in an organization called LACA/ Latin and African American Chaplains Association. This organization works very closely with communities in the United States and all over the world. I have had the honor of working with the Mayor in assisting in projects and the children in the Dominican Republic in the city of Santiago. I currently have projects in the works for other countries with this organization.
I would also like to add that I have learned a great deal from observing and speaking with many world leaders and state leaders in other cities, countries in my travels as an International Latin recording artist. I have been the lead vocal for the son of the legendary artist known as Tito Rodriguez as well as Johnny Ray Salsa Con Clase, and have performed with the legends Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and have shared the stage with everyone from Marc Anthony, Tito Nieves, Paul Simon, Jimmy Sabater, Gilberto Santa Rosa the list goes on and on. I have traveled the world three times over and have used my travels to learn about the diversities of government, policies, religion, law and everything possible of good and bad decision making that has affected their countries or cities.
I say this for one simple reason; knowledge is a virtue and though the common thought process is that people that have held offices before are best suited for political positions is as we have seen for ourselves over the years not 100% true. We as a people have been empowered in recent years to see through it all. How can someone who has not gone through the emotions of possibly losing your home to foreclosure or being laid off or having your light or gas shut off or falling behind and getting your car repossessed or your Childs tuition is coming up and your short or looking for spare change in your house to get enough for dinner etc. lead my community or have my best interest in Albany. They hear the complaints but that’s just it; they HEAR. They don’t have the most important element, and that is that feeling of fear and desperation and helplessness that a father or mother or the head of the households live with 24 hours in the day.
I have lived it, seen it and have made it my life’s goal to change it. Mine will not be your politics as usual approach I will not be bought, I will not be manipulated and I will not trade my morals and my beliefs. I have made many political alliances along the way, but with people who feel as I do and have shown their true character by their work. I hope this gives you some insight of who I am and what I am about. Thank you; my name is Samuel Gonzalez and I am running as a Democrat for State Assembly in the 6th District.
