1.   What makes you qualified to hold this office?

As a small business owner, I have worked extremely hard to build a business. I will take my work ethics, energy, and new solutions to Lansing. To protect our families, we must create good paying jobs. I've helped people find jobs every day of my entire professional career. I was recognized for my community involvement with a Canton Community Supporter Award. I have demonstrated the ability to work with people, as a Past-Chair of the Canton Chamber of Commerce. As a Canton Township Trustee, I have helped lead the 11th largest community in Michigan.

2.   Which sector is more deserving of tax incentives?
We must create a vibrant business climate that allows all industries an opportunity to compete and grow in Michigan. The cost of doing business in Michigan continues to rise for all industries. Sound policy and legislation can help reduce the cost of doing business in Michigan. I believe we should repeal the MBT surcharge. One of my top priorities is to create more jobs in Michigan.

3.   Term limits have vastly reduced the level of experience in the legislature, what have you done to prepare yourself if elected?

My strengths of building relationships, listening, and helping solve their problems have prepared me for Lansing. As a small business owner and Canton Township Trustee, I understand business and how government operates. I have experience with budgets, decision making and problem solving. I have experience talking to leaders in the 21st district. I have lived in the district for 31 years and i know the community. People tell me we need new bold leadership that will fight for us. I will do just that, as always working to protect our families and our way of life.

4.   Do you support a ban on smoking in all Michigan workplaces?
I believe smoking is an issue of public health. In Michigan, tobacco is a regulated product and these regulations have increased. You need to be 18 to purchase tobacco products, most schools ban smoking on school grounds, and Wayne County created the "clean indoor air regulation of 2005" that bans smoking in many workplaces. If smoking only had an effect on the smoker, I would support the current state law. The U.S. Surgeon General, National Research Council, and National Academy of Sciences, report that secondhand smoke causes illness and indoor air pollution. In workplaces, secondhand smoke has a negative effect on non-smokers. I would support allowing designated areas outside for smoking. For example, professional sports arenas and workplaces.

5.   Do you support a higher state gas tax for roads?
I do not support raising our taxes. I support a higher return to Michigan from Washington in regards to our federal fuel taxes. Michigan is a "donor" state where we send more tax money to Washington than is returned. Currently, Michigan recieves 92 cents each dollar raised in Federal fuel taxes. The state is lobbying for 95 cents, which would raise the amount Michigan receives about $40 million a year. I would use that additional revenue to fix our roads.
