Goals and Initiatives

GOAL: ACHIEVE A MIX OF LAND USES THAT ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE AND SUSTAINS LIVABILITY IN A CHANGING COMMUNITY.
  INITIATIVE: Formalize and publish components of growth management plan.
  INITIATIVE: Revise Land Use Plan and review and update ordinances to reflect revised plan.
  INITIATIVE: Continue implementation of adopted Town Center plan.
  INITIATIVE: Develop a formal acquisition and implementation strategy for parks, greenways, and open space.
  INITIATIVE: Establish a storm water utility and fee system.
  INITIATIVE: Work toward becoming an environmentally friendly and energy efficient community.

GOAL: ACHIEVE A STRONG AND STABLE FINANCIAL POSITION THAT FULLY UTILIZES ALL RESOURCES IN A RESPONSIBLE, EFFICIENT, AND EFFECTIVE MANNER.
  INITIATIVE: Create a strategic financial plan.
  INITIATIVE: Ensure proper use of resources by enhancing internal controls.
  INITIATIVE: Identify all new funding opportunities for specific town projects and services.
  INITIATIVE: Develop a roadway evaluation program to analyze costs, prioritize maintenance, and secure funding.

GOAL: CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE SERVICE DELIVERY, INFORMATION, AND PROCESSES.
  INITIATIVE: Refine and implement a performance measurement process to provide better information for budgetary decision making and create a stronger link between allocation of resources and desired results.
  INITIATIVE: Review internal processes/develop TQM program to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  INITIATIVE: Establish a professional development plan.
  INITIATIVE: Establish an implementation plan for information technology and identify departmental technology needs.

GOAL: ENSURE THAT TRANSPORATION AND OTHER CRITICAL PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE IS DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED TO MEET CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDS.
  INITIATIVE: Update, implement, and maintain a transportation plan that includes a reimbursement policy, developer incentives, and partnerships with Cary and other surrounding jurisdictions.
  INITIATIVE: Develop and implement a Southwest Management Plan, including creating a self-sustaining funding mechanism.
  INITIATIVE: Identify critical areas of traffic congestion and appropriate strategies to resolve traffic problems, drawing on NCDOT and partnering with Cary and other stakeholder jurisdictions.
  INITIATIVE: Develop a capital funding strategy for infrastructure needs, including the Town Center.
  INITIATIVE: Evaluate the costs and benefits of in-house vs. contract engineering services.

GOAL: ACHIEVE A TOWN IMAGE WITH A STRONG, POSITIVE INDENTITY VALUED BY RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES, AND VISITORS.
  INITIATIVE: Develop a strategy to promote the identity of the town.
  INITIATIVE: Increase public involvement in town government programs and processes.
  INITIATIVE: Increase the availability of information regarding town government actions and functions.

GOAL: FOSTER A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT TO GROW AND DEVELOP NEW RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES.
  INITIATIVE: Develop and maintain liaison with other agencies, jurisdictions, and stakeholders.

GOAL: PROVIDE COMMUNITY SERVICES THAT SUSTAIN AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE.
  INITIATIVE: Create a safer community by increasing community policing.
  INITIATIVE: Evaluate existing emergency response capabilities.
  INITIATIVE: Develop and implement a healthy community program.
  INITIATIVE: Provide proper maintenance and maximize community usage of parks, recreation, and cultural resources and facilities.
