DA Morganelli: A Strong Record On Minority Issues

John Morganelli was born and raised in a multi-ethnic, lower middle class neighborhood on Bethlehem's southside. As a lawyer and as District Attorney, John has supported efforts of civil rights activists to increase minority representation in positions of leadership and to ensure opportunities and fairness.

John Morganelli:

  • Appointed Northampton County's first two African-American Assistant District Attorneys.
  • Hired Northampton County's first Hispanic County Detective.
  • Hired Northampton County's first African-American County Detective
  • Successfully lobbied the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association and wrote the resolution  to support the Black Caucus' effort to study and oppose any racial profiling practices in Pennsylvania.
  • Worked closely with local NAACP leaders to ensure fair treatment of African-Americans in the criminal justice system.
  • Worked closely with State Sen. Anthony Williams and other leaders of the Black Caucus to end the discriminatory practice known as "credit scoring".
  • Participated as a "Presenter" in a statewide conference in Philadelphia on "Crime in the Black Community" in 2000.
  • Campaigned with John Street in 1999  Philadelphia Mayor race to support Mayor Street's crime fighting platform in neighborhoods.
