Women's Issues

Advanced By DA Morganelli

DA John Morganelli has been sensitive to issues particularly of interest to women. Upon taking office in 1992, DA Morganelli hired a number of female prosecutors increasing the percentage of female representation from 1% to 40%.

In 1998, DA Morganelli appointed  a woman to the position of First Deputy District Attorney, the first time in the county's history that a woman held the  second highest position in the office.

John Morganelli also appointed a female prosecutor to head up the DA's Domestic Violence Unit established in 1998 to address violence against women crimes, as well as female prosecutors to lead the Sexual Assault Unit and the DA's Drug Unit.

DA Morganelli also named a woman as the county's first Victim's Advocate/ Child Abuse Coordinator in creating the office's Child Sexual Assault Unit in 1993.

John Morganelli has been a leader in advancing women into leadership positions in the criminal justice system. As a husband, and as a father of 3 children, he has also been in the forefront of addressing violence against women and in protecting our children. As DA , he has aggressively prosecuted those who prey on children including the international pursuit of child abductors and child predators.
