Officer Position Requirements
PRESIDENT: The President is responsible for seeing that the Atlanta Young Republicans grow and prosper during his/her time in office. As leader of the club he/she should see to it that its members are actively working to get Republicans elected as well as teaching and informing all its members about the Republican philosophy. He/she is to lead by example but should also be training all its members to become leaders themselves. In addition to growing its member’s skills he/she will work to transition all members into the senior Party. The President will preside over all meetings and events of the AYR. He/she will appoint Directors and Officers where needed. The President will see that all ideas and tasks are followed through to fruition. He/she will oversee all financial dealings, is Chairman of the Corporation, and will be responsible for the well being of the club. He will be the representative of the Atlanta Young Republicans at all state and National Young Republican events as well as any Republican Party events. This position is term limited to two consecutive years, if reelected. This position is open to anyone has has previously served as an officer or director of the club for at least one year.
V.P. OF MEMBERSHIP: Responsible for the collection and maintenance of all membership records. He/she will provide a sign in sheet at each AYR meeting, happy hour, and any other event. All information will be added to our membership records to track attendance, membership dues, and guests. The V.P. of Membership will be responsible for the growth of the club. This responsibility will be shared with all the other officers but it will be his/her responsibility to retain, contact, and nurture the involvement of all the AYR members and its potential members. All officer positions are important and play a key role but without the strong commitment of the Membership VP the club can not sustain itself or grow. This position requires time and energy. Calls are to be made to each member no later than two (2) days before each meeting and happy hour. These duties can be shared by the other officers and directors but it is the responsibility of the Membership VP to see them completion. Although the responsibilities may be many the satisfaction of completing them and growing the club is far greater. This is a skill that is needed in all aspects of the corporate world and is a wonderful leadership skill.
V.P OF POLITICAL AFFAIRS: This position involves contacting our national, state, and local elected officials in order to inform them of our activities and to build connections between our club, its members, and the elected officials. Planning of grassroots events such as door to door, phone banking, fundraising, obtaining speakers, and building the networking ability of the club is crucial. In addition to building connections with elected officials he/or she will also work to build and train our members how to become better Republicans as well as better leaders both politically and in the community. This position takes less overall time than the VP of Membership or Media but it does require an ability to retain positive relations between our elected officials and the AYR. A key aspect of the Atlanta Young Republicans is its ability to network its members with the Republican leaders around the state. Events need to be planned well in advance in order to give the official and our members’ time to prepare for their involvement. This is a great position if you are interested in expanding your political connections.
V.P. OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS: The V.P. of Community Affairs oversees community outreach and philanthropic endeavors. This individual will seek out community events for club members to participate in, coordinate volunteers for events, lead the AYR team in fundraising projects and create original outreach programs/events. The main goal of this position is to create an AYR presence in the community and prove that we are more than just a political and social organization.
SECRETARY/TREASURER: The Secretary/Treasurer is responsible for being at all monthly meetings and officers meetings in order to record all minutes and any ideas or topics they may be discussed. This position requires relatively little time but is important for helping the club stay organized and track all club related information. Minutes are to be transcribed and submitted to the President and all officers no later than 5 days after such meetings. The Secretary is also the Secretary of the Corporation. The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining all financial records of the Atlanta Young Republicans. He/she shall be responsible for seeing to it that all fiduciary requirements are met and handled in the appropriate manner. He/she will be responsible for the club checking account; all check cards, and the financial wellbeing of the organization. The Treasurer will also serve as Treasurer to the Corporation.
