1.   THE REPUBLICAN PLATFORM IS MY PLATFORM

Dear Voter,

Every two years, concerned and responsible grassroots Republican activists from all across the state devote months of time and effort to develop an official party platform for candidates to run on. That platform is debated, discussed at length and approved at the bi-annual state GOP convention.  Unfortunately, all too many of our Republican candidates and office-holders never take the time to even read this carefully prepared and approved platform, let alone run on it.

I consider that an insult to the grassroots volunteers who take the development of the party's platform so seriously.

I have reviewed and studied the official Nevada Republican Party platform that was adopted at the state convention in Mesquite on May 20, 2006, and have decided that the official Republican Party plaform will also be my official campaign platform...and challenge my opponents to do the same.

There will, of course, be additional issues raised during the course of this campaign - and I look forward to addressing them as they arise.  In the meantime, if you want to know where I stand on any issues not listed below, please feel free to contact me directly.

2.

LIMITED GOVERNMENT

*  As did President Reagan, I believe government has become too big.  It taxes too much, spends too loosely and regulates our lives too intrusively.  I demand the return of government to traditional Republican fiscal conservatism while preserving budgetary flexibility for state and local authorities.

*  I believe the balance between environmental regulations and other human concerns has been lost and we want it restored. Therefore, I support legislation that prohibits new environmental laws, statutes or regulations unless they are supported by cost benefit analysis based on sound science.  I believe existing environmental laws and regulations should be reconsidered with this principle in mind.

*  I recognize that private property rights are fundamental to democracy and economic prosperity.  I support the rights of private owners and oppose eminent domain actions that take private property for private benefit or use.  In response to the Kelo decision, I call upon State legislatures to pass legislation that prohibits the eminent domain taking of property for private benefit.

*  The United Nations has become adversarial to United States’ interests.  I support withdrawal from the United Nations and reject yielding authority for it to tax, regulate or be involved with internal interests of the U.S., including the Second Amendment, national parks, monuments or bodies of water.  I support eviction of the United Nations from U.S. soil.

3.

IMMIGRATION

*  I welcome legal immigrants from all nations, cultures and races.  I demand strict enforcement of all immigration laws by all levels of government.  I demand that the federal government secure our borders.  I oppose granting amnesty for illegal aliens.  I do not support citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens, illegal residents or foreign visitors.

4.   PRO-LIFE

*  I support protection of innocent human life at every stage from pre-born to the elderly, the infirm and the disabled. I oppose human cloning.  I support the development of adult stem cell research.

5.   ELECTIONS

*  I am very much concerned about voter fraud and demand an end to it.  Therefore, I oppose same day registration and voting.  I demand revision of the current system of voter registration and identification to include proof of citizenship and residency at the time of registration, and positive identification at time of voting.

6.

MISCELLANEOUS LEGISLATION

*  I support making English the official language of the United States of America.

*  I support a definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman.

*  I continue to support the legislative time limits of 120 day sessions every other year.

*  I advocate an advice and consent authority for local government in water resource decisions.  I support enhancing state and local water resource planning.

*  I support a “Public Economic Land Disbursement Program” that returns ownership of unused public land in the State of Nevada to the county of origin for future economic growth as an initiative to support economically struggling rural Nevada counties.

*  I oppose the collection and expenditure of dues or assessments by unions for political purposes without the annual written consent of its individual members.

*  I support repeal of the Davis-Bacon Act.

7.   TAXES & SPENDING

*  I support reductions in the marginal federal income tax rate and permanent repeal of the “death tax”, “marriage penalty” and Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) taxes.

*  I encourage the State Legislature to cut spending and avoid new taxes to encourage strong economic growth. I support balanced state and local budgets, and I support the State Constitutional requirement of a 2/3 vote on tax bills.

*  Reduce the fiscal impact of unfunded mandates on local government and communities.  Find solutions that avoid ballot initiatives, but recognize and respond to public sentiment.

*  I support reform of Social Security, including establishment of private retirement accounts and prohibiting use of its funds for any other purpose.

8.   EDUCATION

*  Competition and consumer choice are as essential to the success of education as to any other sector of our economy.  Therefore, I support parental choice among schools and teachers.  I also support merit pay for teachers based on annual student achievement gains.

*  I demand full implementation of existing Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) provisions requiring teaching of reading, writing, science, history, mathematics and the U.S. Constitution in schools.

9.   PATRIOTISM

*  I recognize the importance of the national values expressed by our flag, anthem, pledge-of-allegiance and other patriotic symbols that define us as a nation.

10.

VETERANS

*  I support a strong Veterans Administration program to ensure that our veterans receive the care and support they were promised.  I thank them for their service.

*  I affirm the Second Amendment right of individuals to keep and bear arms and support the repeal of all legislation infringing on these rights.
