I want to congratulate my opponent on a hard-fought campaign and thank the hundreds of volunteers who helped us in this campaign for State Representative. I am encouraged by the progress we made, the newspaper endorsements and the new friendships made. Although we came up short this time, I will continue to talk about good government, fiscal conservativism and social moderation and our need to reform Illinois government. Illinois is a great state and we live in a great District. I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Glencoe on the Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners and I look forward to hearing from you!
TIM STRATTON ENDORSED BY THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE...
Tim Stratton received the endorsement of The Chicago Tribune on Sunday
October 26th. The Chicago Tribune has endorsed Tim Stratton for State
Representative over eight-year incumbent Karen May. The Tribune calls
Stratton a "sharp, young business guy who has been active in Glencoe
municipal affairs. He is endorsed over Democratic Rep Karen May, who is
too intensely partisan." CHICAGO TRIBUNE
TIM STRATTON ENDORSED BY THE LAKE COUNTY NEWS-SUN...
"(Karen May) has become part of the dysfunction in Springfield today whether (she) would admit to it or not". "Voters should send a message if they want to head in a new direction. Sending a team of qualified Republicans to the Legislature might be the first step in sweeping the political cobwebs out of Springfield". LAKE COUNTY NEWS-SUN
"(Tim Stratton) offers some good ideas on improving the state's finances." CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
An Important Message for the Voters of the 58th district from Tim Stratton
Welcome to my website. Illinois is on the wrong track and my opponent is not focused on the pressing issues of our day: High Taxes, Job Growth, Fiscal Responsibility, Pension Reform and Government Ethics. The respected and non partisan Washington, D.C.-based Pew Center on the States put Illinois near the bottom of its rankings in the report covering how well the 50 states manage their money, people, information and infrastructure.
Illinois scored only better than New Hampshire and Rhode Island and tied with six other states in the ratings basement. Illinois also scored worse than each of its five neighboring states.
Since Rod Blagojevich became governor and Karen May became a state representative, Illinois has sunk to 43rd in the nation in job growth, 40th in personal income growth, and 46th in Gross Domestic Product growth. Illinois currently has an unfunded pension liability of over $42 Billion dollars. While my opponent and the politicians rearrange deck chairs on a sinking ship I will introduce legislation to prohibit further pension and road fund raids that skim dedicated monies to pay for the politicians pet projects. We must pay our bills first and right the sinking ship. I will walk the walk and not just talk the talk.
We need to restore fiscal discipline and send leaders to Springfield who are not afraid to take on the politicans and special interests. The future of our children and our state depend on it. If you are concerned about the lack of ethics in government, the over reliance on taxes, the rising price of gas and food and the lack of solutions coming from Springfield then I invite you to join our campaign to change Illinois. We need a State Representative who is focused on these important issues.
My opponent supported a 10% pay hike for politicians in 2007 and was one of only a small handful of Representatives who voted to raise her pay yet again by 9% in 2008. Now she falsely claims that she voted against the pay raises. My opponent is also one of only four State Representatives to receive a zero score by the public policy group LIFT Illinois. That's too extreme and I will work across the aisle to solve our problems in a bipartisan manner. The only way we change things in Springfield is to change who we send there. It's time for a new direction for Illinois.
