WELCOME MESSAGE
Hello, my name is Brett Gaspard, and I would like to thank you for visiting my campaign website!
After fifteen long years of fighting political bureaucracy as a volunteer citizen activist through groups like Take Back Kentucky and the League of Kentucky Property Owners, I recently made the decision to seek the office of State Representative in order to bring bold new leadership to Frankfort.
I was encouraged to make this decision as a consequence of the widespread and growing disillusionment with government that we have seen manifested through the national 9.12 and Tea Party movements.
In seeking this office, I want my friends and neighbors to know that I plan to continue shaking things up in Frankfort the way I always have as a citizen activist—through careful research, engaging dialogue, and persistent grassroots action.
In fact, I intend to sign a term-limits pledge to demonstrate that the office will not be used to serve the political machine, but rather to serve the People.
The evident problem with our political establishment today is a disregard for the honorable oath of office taken by Founding Fathers like Washington, Adams and Jefferson.
We have politicians who place their hand on the Bible, swear an oath to the Constitution, and then begin abusing the power and privilege of their position the moment their hand is removed.
The cycle of a particular political seat becoming an entitlement for incumbents must end, even when it means that our elected heroes must move on as well. Principle must prevail if real change in politics is going to occur. There are many ways to serve our country—leaders find those ways to serve.
Another major hurdle that I have witnessed up close is the blatant refusal of candidates to sign a “No New Taxes Pledge.”
After more than a decade of serving as a spokesperson for Kentucky Taxpayers United—the grassroots organization founded by U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul—I can say first hand that there is a strong Establishment push to increase the tax burden on We, the People.
Liberals and left of center progressives trying to confuse the electorate defend their position not to sign a pledge by concealing proposed tax increases in lofty sounding calls for “tax restructuring” or “tax reform,” but what we really need are tax cuts, plain and simple.
Yes, we should all be for tax reform, but that reform absolutely must contain tax relief. Printing money out of thin air and creating additional debt through haughty spending and bailout initiatives doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem.
Government cannot create wealth because it produces nothing that it first doesn’t secure from the taxpayers. However, government CAN encourage growth and prosperity by creating a tax-friendly environment for its citizens. We must restore sound economic principles to Washington and Frankfort.
Finally, I recognize that if our political system moves too far to the right or left, then eventually the hands of the clock will both arrive at the same place. However, I don’t believe that our Founding Fathers were too far right or left. I don’t believe that the Declaration of Independence or Bill of Rights were extreme documents. Conversely, I believe that they were the foundation for a nation that offered the greatest amount of freedom and opportunity to its people ever seen in the history of mankind.
I believe it is altogether fitting and patriotic to honor the oath of office to defend a Constitution which holds in such high esteem the rights to life, liberty and property.
It is an oath that I will hold in the highest reverence, recognizing the weight and magnitude of placing my hand on the Bible to take that oath. Moving forward, I hope you will join and support me in this campaign to bring strong conservative leadership to the Kentucky General Assembly.
In the meantime, may God richly bless you for your commitment to the causes of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
