Don Self is a hard working, conservative, common sense Texan who stands for fairness and not legislating from the Bench.  He understands that our judges should rule on a non-partisan basis without regard for their party affiliation.

Don believes Texans should elect their judges and not be forced to accept only appointed judges.  It is our constitutional right to elect judges, and a benefit of choice that all Texans enjoy and appreciate.  While many times we elect our judges and justices on a Republican or Democratic party basis, judges should make rulings without an agenda.  We need judges who decide cases based on what the law is, not what they want it to be.   

Don served in the United States Navy for six years earning a Navy Commendation, Citation and an honorable discharge. Don has 14 years of private practice experience in Houston, Texas representing both defendant and plaintiff clients in such areas as complex business law, contract law, elder law, commercial real estate law and health law.  Don's representation of defendants and plaintiffs demonstrates he can apply the law fairly and without prejudice and bias.  Don also has  an LL.M. in health law from the University of Houston.       

Don serves our community through charitable work and giving. He donates his time and resources to such charitiable organizations as Neighborhood Centers, Inc., Girls, Inc., and the United Way. He serves on the board of Leadership Houston and is a Class XXV graduate.

Mayor White appointed Don to the position of Commissioner, Panel 1, City of Houston Building and Standards Commission where he continues to serve.

Don Self is an attorney and businessman with practical hands-on experience, an entrepreneur and key principal in multifamily partnership investments.  Don is a native Texan, married to Kimberly Self and the father of three children - Morgan 9, Logan 7 and  Peyton 6 whom attend St. John's School and The Fay School.   

Don Self has a true understanding of what it takes to be successful in a law practice, a business environment and the military. As a leader in the community, he has what it takes to become the next Justice of the First Court of Appeals, Place 4.
