ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

The youngest child of James and Marian Krueger, Maureen was raised in a working class neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio.  She attended a Catholic elementary school and high school.  She is a graduate of the Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati School of Law.  Throughout all of her school years, Maureen led a very busy extra-curricular life.  She competed in various athletics, participated in a variety of speech and debate competitions, played trumpet in the orchestra, volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, volunteered with the American Legion, and even won a partial scholarship for writing a screen play. During college, Maureen became interested in the role of the prosecutor in the legal profession.  After interning in the Campbell County, Kentucky Prosecutor’s Office, Maureen was convinced that she had found her vocation – prosecutor.  Throughout law school, Maureen also interned extensively in the Hamilton County, Ohio Prosecutor’s Office.

Maureen moved to North Carolina in 1996 with her husband, Rick.  In January of 1997, Maureen became an Assistant District Attorney for the 19B Prosecutorial District.  This District covered the counties of Moore, Randolph and Montgomery.  In 2003, Maureen opened her own law office in Carthage. Later that year, Maureen and Rick were blessed with the birth of their son, Timothy.  Maureen developed and maintained a thriving criminal defense practice, and expanded her firm to include an associate attorney handling bankruptcy, domestic matters and personal injury.  In 2005, Maureen and Rick were again blessed with the birth of their daughter, Abigail.

After the North Carolina General Assembly announced that Moore County would become its own prosecutorial district effective January 2007, Maureen actively sought the appointment. On January 15, 2007 Maureen was sworn in as the first District Attorney for the 19D Prosecutorial District of Moore County.   Maureen is a hands-on prosecutor. Since January 2007, she has successfully tried a variety of cases ranging from animal cruelty to capital murder.

During the appointment process, Maureen promised her supporters that she would seek election for the full, four year term in 2008.   Ever true to her word, Maureen is pleased to announce her 2008 candidacy for District Attorney of the 19D Prosecutorial District.
