| The 53rd Delegate District
As the second fastest growing part of the fastest growing county in West Virginia, the 53rd Delegate District is certainly a vital part of Berkeley County and West Virginia. Musselman High School, the 4th largest high school in the state and certainly the best overall if you ask the residents of this district, rests within the boundaries of the 53rd. The largest middle school in the state also locates within the district's area-Musselman Middle School.
Guardian Fiberglass and Orgill Worldwide Distribution and Retail Services are in Jonathan Miller's district, not to mention dozens of small local businesses like Arden Equipment, Heritage Hall, and Gantt's Excavating. Aside from all the commercial activity that exists in this small, but rapidly growing area are still acres upon acres of apple orchards. Though most orchards have fallen victim to low food prices and high land values, the beauty of the 53rd still exists, especially in the tranquil Back Creek Valley.
This area is also home to great historical value. Morgan Morgan's cabin, the first settler of West Virginia, the Gerrard House, and dozens of civil war relic sites rest within the 53rd. The historic towns of Bunker Hill and Gerrardstown are key parts of this district and several sites are registered with the Historic Register of the United States. Abraham Lincoln's presence is even felt in this area since his most trusted body guard and heralded campaign manager Ward Hill Lamon lived and is currently buried in Gerrardstown.
The 53rd Delegate District covers most of South Berkeley County, including most of Back Creek Valley. It includes the towns of Inwood, Bunker Hill, Gerrardstown, Ganotown, Glengary, Ridgeway, and Tablers Station. The 53rd Delegate District also occupies parts of Jones Spring, Shanghai, Arden, Darkesville, and Pikeside.
