MY PLEDGE TO YOU

"I, Leslie Alan Pyeatt, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter.

"And I do further swear that I do not advocate, nor am I a member of any party or organization, political or otherwise, that now advocates the overthrow of the Government of the United States or of the State of California by force or violence or other unlawful means; that within the five years immediately preceding the taking of this oath I have not been a member of any party or organization, political or otherwise, that advocated the overthrow of the Government of the United States or of the State of California by force or violence or other unlawful means except as follows:

NO EXCEPTIONS

and that during such time as I hold the office of Assistant City Engineer I will not advocate nor become a member of any party or organization, political or otherwise, that advocates the overthrow of the Government of the United States or of the State of California by force or violence or other unlawful means."

This passage from the California State Constitution is the oath I took when I became a public servant in California, and I still take it seriously.  Today, our freedom and our way of life is threatened by both foreign and domestic foes.  But the greatest threat to the Constitution does not come from those who want to destroy it, but rather from those who want to ignore it.

I pledge to you that, as your representative in Congress, I will never vote for any law which conflicts with the United States Constitution.  Further, I pledge that I will never vote for any bill which I have not personally read.

At one time, the American republic was on the forefront of the worldwide movement for peace, freedom, and justice.  Led by social justice advocates like Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin and Samuel Adams, Americans developed the most advanced statement of human rights the world had ever seen: the Bill of Rights.  And they were so committed to these human rights that they included the Bill of Rights into the federal government’s fundamental organizing document, the United States Constitution.

Unfortunately, many people in government do not share the Founding Fathers’ commitment to these rights.  Whenever the constitution prevents them from controlling our behavior in some way, they simply ignore that part of the constitution.  As a result, we now live in a country where our government intervenes in our lives daily.  It spends trillions of dollars of our money launching “pre-emptive” attacks on people all over the globe who have never harmed us.  And now it even claims the right to imprison citizens and foreigners alike without benefit of a fair trial.  Without the guiding light of the U.S. Constitution, our nation has lost its way.

Millions of Americans throughout the country are now determined to reinstitute the U.S. Constitution as the supreme law of the land.  We are determined to return our nation to its original path of peace, freedom, and justice.  Please join us.

“Now is the time for all good people to

come to the aid of their country.”
