Family Values:

Families are the bedrock of society, and yet the government doesn't always support them.  The 'comprehensive' family values I learned from my parents growing up in the Valley called for personal responsibility coupled with opportunity.  Traditional American family values call upon us to work hard, conserve our spending and invest time with our children.  Too many families today are struggling with both parents working and not finding the time to mentor their children.  I think that government should incentivise marriage programs like making the repeal of the marriage tax penalty permanent, Marriage counseling programs before marriage, and dispute resolution before divorce is granted, Because the surest way for a sound society is a strong family structure, and the surest family structure is for children to grow up with a Mommy and Daddy able to handle the economic stresses and find the time to engage in their lives.

Education:

Education is the most important factor in having a competitive 21st Century workforce and in enjoying a middle class income.  Education policy should include from early childhood programs all the way to post college continuing education programs.  Workforce transformation should be a partnership between the business community and government.  I would work to incentivise US businesses to grant more continuing education time off for the American worker to improve his or her skills.  Together we can make the worker of the 30th Congressional District the most competitive worker of the 21st century.

Economic Development:

I believe that Economic Development is the #1 priority of every elected official from our district.  What we need is leadership to bring all the vested interests to the negotiating table and moving us forward as a team.  The people of the 30th District are the most important factor, and that's why my education policies are so vital.  The local Business community is also a very important partner.  Too often we think big business and forget that most new jobs in America are created by Entrepreneurial small businesses like mine.  Economic Development should also be a partnership between all the levels of government (city council, county government, state legislators and federal representatives).  I will work to improve capital availability for business development in the 30th District, workforce education, and the removal of governmental roadblocks to business.

Social Security:

Social Security is a very important social safety net for our senior citizens.  Nothing we ever do should threaten the viability of this program, and that's why I'm for the government guaranteeing the solvency of this program moving forward.  Americans have depended on this program since the 1930s and there is no reason they can't count on it moving forward.  I will work to increase the number of tax incentivised programs that encourage folks to save for retirement next to Social Security, like for instance the Roth IRA, 401K, etc. I also would favor the careful but steady migration to individually managed savings plans that will begin to build a sustainable program for our children and grandchildren.

National Security:

The most important function of government is to protect the safety of its citizens. National Security is very important and that's why I've devised a 6 point plan for America's future...But let us also remember that cops on the ground using neighborhood policing techniques is also part of national security.  If our neighborhoods get run over by drugs and gang activity, families feel less safe and our neighborhoods become less attractive for business and we all suffer.

Immigration:

Immigration is what made our country great.  Legal immigrants bring a new energy and vitality to our society that has constantly reinvigorated it since the date of founding.  We need more of that in the 21st Century as we compete more and more with the rest of the globe and our demographic situation ages more.  We must remain true to our traditional American values as we welcome these immigrants.  We should get a handle on our borders and enforce existing federal laws.  We should fund an adequate border patrol presence in order to secure our borders.  We should enforce our immigration laws on the business community and penalize those who break the law. I also believe America needs a new program to help mold the American identity for all recent immigrants.  We should increase the ESL programs, etc. and the faith-based community is a natural partner to government to provide these services.
