2009 has brought new challenges to all of us, as private citizens and in government at all levels. While it is the responsibility of government to maintain proper infrastructure and government services, it is also incumbent on elected officials to keep close watch on the budget and a conservative approach to spending. There is much that can be done that doesn't require large expenditures.

I have joined with my fellow board members to increase transparency and accountability measures in DuPage, so that we can avoid the corruption that has plagued our state government for decades. As Vice Chairman of Strategic Planning, I continue to work on initiatives that include performance measures and further reductions in duplication of services, along with continued efforts for greater efficiency. As Public Works Chairman I am proud to say we are working in conjunction with the Environmental Committee on Green Initiatives to make our County campus more environmentally friendly and to promote the same with municipalities and businesses around DuPage. I am also working to bring clean water to unincorporated areas with substandard wells. What it comes down to is ongoing efforts to maintain and improve our quality of life. DuPage is a great place to live, and my primary tasks on the County Board are to preserve what is best and improve where we must.
