I was number 11 of 13 children. My mother was the greatest influence in my life. I was raised in a rural town in southwestern Ct. and graduated from high school in 1965. I joined the Marines in 1966 and spent 13 months in Viet Nam from '67 to '68 as a machine gunner. My unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for the battle for Khe Sahn during the TET offensive of 1968.
I attended Dixie College and graduated with high honors in 1970. During this time I met and married my wife, the former Annette McArthur. In Oct. we will have been married 38 years (the first 37 are the hardest). I then attended Utah State University and graduated with high honors in Social Work and Psychology in 1972.
I worked for a very short time for the State of Idaho and then came back to St. George in 1973 where I've lived except for 3 years in Oregon. My work since then has been home construction and real estate. I have worked as a lay pastor (unpaid) for about 10 years but have retired from that position.
My political views have changed drastically over the years. When I graduated from College I believed that government was the answer for all social ills. I campaigned for George McGovern in 1972 thinking he was man who'd set things straight. Mercifully he lost. I became a staunch conservative with the Reagan Revolution of the late 70's and the early 80's.
I have been conservative and Republican ever since, working in the GOP as a Precinct Chair and V. Chair, as the District 75 Chairman, as a State Central Committee member, and as a member of the Executive Committee for Washington County. I ran for the 2nd Congressional District in the last cycle but lost in the primary.
My mission is to faithfully serve the people of the 75th District. My commitment is to uphold the Republican State Platform and to use wisdom with regards to new legislation and regulation as well as scrutinizing those things that hamper personal initiative, business growth and prosperity.
