Peter Bearse for Congress
2009

A DIFFERENT CAMPAIGN -- SO YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

Whether you get involved or just (!) cast your vote in the primary, YOU ARE A KEY ACTOR in a unique, 10-POINT CAMPAIGN --

1.     PEOPLE-EMPOWERING: A campaign of CITIZENS’ to elect a NH citizen legislator, not a campaign run by political “pro’s,” money & media to get one of their own into office. To get a different kind of Congressman, and a Congressional Office redesigned, staffed & managed to help people --YOU --make a difference.

2.   Of PEOPLE, not MEDIA: No reliance upon expensive media ads; rather, reliance upon word of mouth & the Internet: People-talking-to-people, plus bloggers, letters to editors and citizens’ journalism. The most powerful form of advertising is word-of-mouth!

3. LOW BUDGET…because we need to show how to end the money arms-race that campaigns have become. I love grassroots politics. It’s been a constant part of my life & experience for over 35 years. I don’t like big-money campaigns or fundraising. This campaign will raise what's needed to win. The emphasis will be on raising money to empower people -- to help you and others to make a difference via good, old-fashioned, person-to-person politics. Very little money will be spent on media, and none for TV ads or the big mainstream media. The projected budget? -- only a fraction of the obscene $1 million dollars that the political "pro's" say it takes to run for Congress!

If you fall for the media line that a candidate for Congress needs to raise a ton of money to be "viable" then, in effect, you are saying 'my vote can be bought' and that 'I don't mind that Congress is so beholden to monied special interests that people don't count.' This candidate refuses to believe that. And you?

4.  DO-IT-YOURSELF: Campaign materials available on the website to adapt and use [click on “Resources”]

5.    NETROOTS ACTIVISM: A grassroots campaign enabled by the Internet [e.g., check out the Commentary, Questions, Blog and Poll pages of this website].

6.    Spurred by INTERNET INTERACTIVITY: Via Web-forums, blogs, questions, answers, podcasts and wikis.

7.   With your PRIVACY RESPECTED: A personally expressive, not intrusive campaign -- No invasion of your privacy by campaign tele-marketing calls.  A campaign of personal interaction and full information that treats you as an adult, a responsible American citizen looking to cast an informed vote, not as a child to be spoon-fed sound bites & hyped images via major media.  Your input, shared via the Internet from the privacy of your own home, will play a significant role in this campaign!

8.    Where PUBLIC INTEREST comes 1st. This candidate will not use the Congressional Office to favor the private interests of major donors.  What counts is you and our shared interest in a better politics and a government that is “of” and “by” as well as “for,” you.

9.   Of VALUES: A campaign solidly grounded upon traditional American values.

10.  CONSERVATIVE…In the best sense of the word: Building upon the best of the past as a foundation for moving forward into an uncertain future.

AND SO: the campaign will demonstrate how the candidate would serve YOU, if elected. The campaign IS YOU -- bottom up, not top down. Basic campaign materials will be available online. You can adapt them to suit. You can even design your own! Money will be raised to put campaign materials and political tools into YOUR hands, not for media propaganda.

Rather than deferring to over-centralized, bloated, power-hungry bureaucracies in Washington, the campaign will recognize and build upon local government and grass-roots initiatives of which we New Hampshire-ites are most proud.
