Peter Bearse for Congress

THIS PAGE IS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS TO PETER [and he'll answer them!].

Just to get the ball rolling, let's kick-off this page with two questions on which anyone might want answers; one, on why I, Peter Bearse, am running, and another on my most basic values.

QUESTION #1: Why are you running? See the WHY I RUN page.

QUESTION #2What are your most basic values? [Remember the icons on the home-page?]

* TRUTHfulness [represented by the "Veritas" icon because veritas = truth, in latin. The icon is the symbol of Harvard, Peter's alma mater (Class of 1963)]. Truthfulness is first because it is so fundamental. Without it, there is no trust, without which any relationship breaks down, including that between an elected official and the public he aims to serve.

* COMMUNITY: We're all part of some community in which everything and everybody are somehow interconnected. This is represented by the 8-fold knot, both an ancient and a modern symbol.

* ONE WORLD, OUR WORLD: The icon here is, what else? -- the earth's globe, a beautiful blue-green orb seen floating against the dark backdrop of outer space. Notwithstanding science fiction, Star Wars and the like, this is the only world we have to live in. What kind of world will we pass on to our children and future generations? The arrow points to where we are -- the location of New Hampshire's First Congressional District, where our vote and participation in public life can make a difference for our world.

* PARTICIPATION: We all want our lives to "make a difference" for others as well as ourselves. Better together. Unless we are rich, famous or influential, any one of us needs to join with others to effect things outside of our homes -- to participate with others in some part of public life. So, participation is symbolized several ways; first, by Norman Rockwell's painting of a working man speaking his piece at a town meeting. Second, by IF NOT YOU, WHO? -- the icon seen here and on the final page of Peter's book, WE THE PEOPLE, which shows why people need to be involved to "take back" their politics and goverment, and how they can "make a difference," politically. Third, by the campaign's music -- a stanza from Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man;" by the campaign song, Pink Floyd's "No Turning Away;" and by Les McCann's 1978 jazz tune, "Let's Make It Real..."

* SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: The icon of MIT stands for the values of science and the power of technology. The values are those of truth-seeking, openness, accountability and toleration. These values are the basis of scientific and technological progress -- far greater sources of progress than the backwardness of our politics and government.

LIBERTY and RESPONSIBILITY: They go together
