Taxes and Spending

Mike Miller is a strong, consistent fiscal conservative who stands for lower taxes and a smaller, more efficient government. Taxes are too high. Government has grown too big.

We need a budget that is responsible and sustainable in good times as well as bad times.

Mike believes we need to take a serious look at property taxes and the way they are calculated. Is it right that your property taxes skyrocket just because some rich out-of-stater buys a house in your neighborhood? We need some kind of relief so we don't have a repeat of the 2009 property tax fiasco.

Jobs and the Economy

Mike is in favor of offering incentives to attract industry that will create good paying jobs in Montana. Mike wants to keep Montanans in Montana. He envisions a State where good paying jobs are readily available and where people are not forced to leave their Montana homes and heritage just to find a job that pays enough to support their family.

Individuals who earn their living will always know how to spend their money better than the government will. To Mike, this isn’t just another issue in Helenait is a major reason why he is asking the voters of HD84 to send him there.

Personal Property Rights

Mike Miller is an outspoken supporter of personal property rights and the right of landowners and businesses to control that which they own, free from politically-driven harassment.

At the same time, Mike believes that “public lands” should be for the enjoyment and use by the people of Montana, not placed “off limits” by a few radical elites. He will fight for Multiple Use, which has served Montana well for many years.

Right to Privacy

Mike Miller is a defender of the personal privacy of all Montanans, and of our constitutional protections from government snooping (Real ID, Patriot Act, etc.) He is proud that Montana stood up for States Rights and said NO to the RealID act. Mike says "We don't need the government listening in on our phone calls, reading our emails and watching every financial transaction we make."

Right to Bear Arms

Mike is an unwavering defender of the 2nd Amendment – which guarantees our individual right to keep and bear arms, free from government encroachment.  Mike strongly supported and voted for both the Castle Doctrine (HB 228) and the Made in Montana Firearms Act (HB 246). He has been endorsed by both the Montana Shooting Sports Association and the NRA for a reason: As Mike says "I do not see a lot of shades of gray when it comes to firearm rights." Mike hunts and supports hunting, but also recognizes that “The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.”

Mike Miller is a strong supporter of an excellent, locally-controlled and well funded public education system. He supports the right of parents to direct their children’s education, be it a public, private or home school.

He will work to attract and keep quality teachers for Montana's schools. Over 70% of Montana college graduates with a teaching certificate leave Montana to find a better paying job -- fixing this will be one of Mike's top priorities.

Health Care

Mike is against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also called "Obamacare"). It is difficult to understand how millions more people (more medicaid) can be covered without raising the cost for everyone. Mike is concerned that the changes to Medicare will hurt senior citizens.
