Pamela J. Brown was born in Boston and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, southern Maine and Rhode Island.  She pursued her college studies at Mount Holyoke College and the University of Rhode Island where she earned a B.A. in Economics.  While a teenager and in college, Dr. Brown performed a wide variety of entry level blue-collar jobs including factory work (manufacturing, food processing  etc.), waitressing, retail sales, restroom maintenance and child care services to pay for her tuition costs and living expenses.

Dr. Brown moved to the San Fernando Valley from the East coast in 1987 when her husband joined the Economics Department at California State University, Northridge.  Today  Dr. Brown teaches economics at Pierce College in the San Fernando Valley.  She is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Political Science, Economics, Law & Criminal Justice.  She enjoys meeting and teaching almost 800 new students in her economics courses each year.   Since 1987, the candidate has taught at many other California campuses - including California State University, Northridge, Pasadena City College, East LA College, Glendale Community College and other community colleges across Los Angeles.

Dr. Brown has served on several committees and taskforces at Pierce College in recent years, among them the College Budget committee, several Bond Construction Taskforces, the Pierce Academic Senate and the Los Angeles Community College District Academic Senate, and Statewide academic committees.

Before becoming a full-time educator, Dr. Brown worked for several years on professional economic research and publications in the areas of the government regulation, the economics of voting, monetary policy, and the economics of developing countries.  She completed her Ph.D. at George Mason University’s Center for the Study of Public Choice in 1988.   During graduate school, Dr. Brown served as research assistant to Economics Nobel Prize winner Dr. James M. Buchanan and worked as a policy analyst in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Brown has been involved in the Libertarian Party since age 19 when she left the Democratic Party and found her political home.   She is a supporter of The CATO Institute, The Reason Foundation (Santa Monica), The Independent Institute (San Francisco), Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, Citizens Against Government Waste, Compassion & Choices, Doctors Without Borders and other organizations.   In 2006, Dr. Brown made her first foray into politics.  Using her own time, resources and funds, she ran for CA State Senate District 20 and received 25% of the popular vote as the Libertarian Party's candidate.

Dr. Brown is committed to protecting individual freedoms and personal privacy and to a massive reduction in the size and scope of government along with lower taxes for Californians.

During her limited time outside of college teaching, Dr. Brown continues her economic research and writing projects, and assists her Pierce students with their class studies during the weekends.   Pam and her husband live in Northridge and enjoy hiking and reading fiction.

The advancement of freedom is not a matter of who wields political power over creative actions; rather, it depends upon the disassembling of such power.
