Thanks for your interest in Saving Mason Street !

The San Francisco Examiner has called the idea of closing the stretch of heavily trafficked Mason Street between Columbus Avenue and Lombard Street a "traffic nightmare in the making. "

Friends of Mason Street is organizing this campaign. The city wants to build a Library on the triangle (701 Lombard) that is so large that Mason Street needs to be closed to through traffic. The new Library building footprint is larger than the 9 unit building that was taken away by eminent domain to create open space. The closure of Mason Street is also opposed by the North Beach Neighbors, the Coalition for San Francisco Neighborhoods, the North Beach Chamber of Commerce, The San Francisco Preservation Consortium and the Telegraph Hill Dwellers passed a motion to keep the triangle (701 Lombard) as open space.  We need your help, sign our petition, put yourself on the mailing list so we could inform you of meetings.
